Pat, Keep us updated on your Grandson - that is good news that they do not see any cancer at the present time - we will be holding our breath with you for the next 7 weeks.  He will probably continue to have tests for years and we are going to pray that each and everyone of those tests comes out negative.

Thank you so much for your concerns for me - I am worried a little bit as I didn't realize I was falling till I had already fallen...the bruise is healing and thank the Lord that I didn't break anything.  I am very very grateful for that.

Quote from my book

"As good stewards of the body God has given us, we strive to present a positive image to others.  Yet there's something far more important than what we look like on the outside, and that's who we are on the inside.

Inner qualities such as character, integrity, honesty, kindness, and genuine love for others far outweigh mere physical charm.  In the heart is where God looks, and in the heart is where true beauty lies.  And here's good news for those of us getting on in years -- though outer beauty fades, inner beauty grows only more lustrous with time!

Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.  1 Samuel 16:7 NIV

It was a long night.  I went to bed early and woke to pain of course... so got up about 3 a.m. heard my mom yelling went in to see what was going on - she was on the floor in front of her chair - I asked her what was up and she said she had fallen - now she and I both know that I can not help her so asked her if she wanted me to wake Jay up to get her up and she said NO so I said do you want me to call an ambulance and she said YES... so I called them and they came took her and I got dressed and followed... Well to make a long story short - she was operated on this morning and has a rod in her left hip - she had broken it in her fall - she came through surgery fine and I cam home after the surgery while she was in recovery as they weren't sure how long she would be and I am exhausted... they called a few minutes ago and said while in recovery she was disoriented and tried to get up out of the bed... she was given some medication and her breathing stopped and a respirator had to be given - she was moved up to ICU - they think she will be there for about 24 hours and then down to the regular room- they have 1 -2  patients per nurse on ICU and 5-7 on the surgical wing so she will have better care over night on ICU - with her there I am hopeful that I will get some rest today and tonight and go up and see her tomorrow - she should be in the regular part of the hospital till Tues and then back up to the rehabilitafion floor that she was on after her stroke in May... so it will be like going home...she will be there for about 2 weeks and then back home... i wish they would keep her a month so I could go to Branson and back and not worry about her - but Rita will be here and hopefully all will be well...

Prayers please!

Tired Sleepy Thea

I am so sorry to hear all of this.  Just one more thing on your plate that you didn't need.  Praying for both of you.  Please take care of yourself first or you won' be able to take care of your mom.

Thea:

Prayers please!

Tired Sleepy Thea

Thea, so sorry this has happened and definitely will be saying prayers for all of you.  You take care of yourself while mom is away, you need to get some rest before she comes home.  Maybe you could suggest nursing home care after rehab until after Branson.  My DBIL had to put my DS in a nursing home temporarily until he got out of a hospital stay for himself.  God Bless.  (((((HUGS)))))

Thea I hope that your mother heals quickly...so sorry that you all are going through this.

Pat- I had radiation burns and they were the WORST part of the treatments- even worse than the several surgeries I had to have. I hope they heal quickly and he continues to get negative results on future tests!

I was told tonight that my husband is indeed on the list of 12 to go to Afghanistan this summer. He will do a 1 year tour. He was in Iraq from Jan 2004- Feb 2005 so I know what to expect. Difference is this time I won't have my children here to have a reason to get out of bed everyday. I am pretty upset but I knew he was a soldier when I married him.   We go to a family briefing in April to do paperwork, get ID's, etc.  He promises that when he returns from this tour he will retire from military and 2019 he will retire from the state.   We will see....

Erin,

My heart goes out to you!  Let me just say a huge THANK YOU to both you and your husband for the sacrifices you are willing to make as a military family.  You have my utmost respect.  Where do you live and will you stay there while he is deployed?  As for a reason to get out of bed, we will just have to keep you so active in quilting projects that you don't even have time to go to bed!  Will keep your family in my prayers.

We live in south eastern Ohio and yes, I will stay here. He is in the Army National Guard and he loves serving his country.  We are all very proud of him!  This is kind of a good thing (money wise).  If I focus and stay on track, I will be able to pay off some small bills/loans while he is gone and build our savings up too.  That way when he does get back home he will feel better about retiring having a nest egg.   With only me being here the food/gas/utilities will be cut in half and I'll be able to go on some weekend trips and retreats too maybe.   I will be fine---I lived through the first deployment!  :)

Erin, I am very knowledgeable about the situation you are in.  It is very hard for "civilians" to understand the money situation that military members go through.  I know for my DH and I that the moving was very hard.  When we left to go to Japan, we had to sell all of our things as we couldn't take them with us.  Some things we could put into storage but you never knew what they would look like after years of being in storage - so you truly ended up with nothing.  I did 2 tours overseas on my own away from my family to earn money to get us out of debt so that when I got back from the last one that my DH and I would be able to buy a house together.  So I know that at least, although it isn't a great deal of money that you will be able to save up some for a nest egg... and transferring from being on active duty to retired is very tough - You hear all through your service that if you make it to retirement you get 50% of your pay - well that is not quite true - you get 50% of your taxable income.  and after they take out any of the insurance that you authorize it is a small amount.  We tried to build up a good nest egg and tried to understand but it was very very difficult.  I was the primary income for our family as my DH followed me around the world and never was able to do that start at the bottom and work your way up the ladder... he was always having to start at the bottom.

My heart goes out to you.  I went from making a little over $3000 a month to making $700 a month to be quite blunt.   Prior to retirement, I was told I would be 100% disabled upon retirement so I was supposed to get that pay also - well they flat out LIED and I was given a 70% disability - for a year we were in a limbo state - to pay our bills I was in need of a second job but if I took that job then I wouldn't be able to appeal my disability and get it up to 100% - we ended up filing bankruptcy to enable us to live.  DH had to leave again the job he was in that he had been working at for 5 years to take a factory job to make enough money to allow us to keep our home.

The to top it all off we were hit in a rear end collision that ended up with my having to have 2 major surgeries.

I know you are prepared though for his deployment - but for us I remember that not only did we have bills here but I had to buy my own food where I was - and food was expensive.  I lived for 6 months on soup and bologna sandwiches so that when I got back we had enough saved to buy a home.  Sacrifices - that is what our military does.

I will be thinking of you often and can privately give you some advice about things to do for retirement that might assist and help you.  I had members help me and was so glad of it as they do not want to pay you anything if they can help it - -

On another note:  I am very depressed today... I would so love to wake up with a huge smile on my face and all my pain and trials be behind me if just for a little while.  I was hurting so bad that it has prevented me from going to the hospital.  I have a very sore throat which I am sure is from some bug that was either in the ICU or on the ward that they moved Mom to.   I know I have to calm down that they are giving her the best care possible and that although she and I get along like oil and water that I want the best possible care for her.  Not being used to how hospitals do things and knowing that she for some reason unfathomable will not ask for any assistance or tell them that she is in pain... and then will SCREAM HELP... scared me to death when she did that yesterday... so I know that the surgery has confused her to no end.  She doesn't understand any of it.

The hospital called me today and I told them about my concerns yesterday and that I had to leave or blow up at someone as I truly didn't understand what was going on.  I could go into a long drawn out explanation of my confusion but am trying hard to just keep myself calm so that I can get well enough to go to see her tomorrow.  I know that they are taking good care of her - but - well you probably understand.  There is only me here too - even if she was back in NY there would be only me as I would have flown to NY or driven... She had no friends close to where she was and our family is so what I call messed up the reason I left oh so many years ago... but none of the family that is there would have visited her as they didn't when she had her pace maker put in...

But alas, I could go on and on - and all I truly came to ask was that you pray for her that she makes it through the recovery from the surgery and can come back home to be here with us and her tiny dog.  Thank you!

Just said a prayer for you and your mom, Thea.  Will continue to pray for all of you.  I know it is hard, but sometimes we just have to trust the hospitals and their staff to take care of a loved one so that we can take care of ourselves.  I think that is where you are now.  You have to get yourself under control mentally and physically so that you can get your life back on an even keel.  Please, take care of yourself, rest, relax and PRAY!
