Hi Thea,

This is really early but I'm in...tentatively. How long do we have until we can no longer change our minds?

I'm confused!  Is Secret Santa separate from Christmas all Year Long?  If so, what is Secret Santa and how does it work?

Is this where I sign up for the Secret Santa? I'm new to this "thread" stuff, so not sure what I'm doing. it sounds very interesting and I would really like to join.

Thank you,

Susan Novak

I'm with you Susan.  I want to participate in this also but now that I submitted my name I have no idea what to do or where to look for future info.  If/when you hear something...let me know.  Thx.

I am quoting Thea's answer so that those asking questions can see it.

As i understand it, Christmas All Year Long will be monthly projects to make ahead of the holidays so that we aren't rushing at the end of the year to make gifts.  Secret Santa is a gift exchange; Thea will draw names to partner people up later this year.

Thea:

I have started the list in Pages so you can check and see if you name is on there...

I will shortly be posting a copy of the questionaire there - going through it to update it with some additions that were requested from last year - and I ask that when it is posted that you copy and past it and send me either a PM or an email with your answers to go in the SS Program 2013 binder.

As I stated before, I want you to know that any information you give me is only passed on to your SS.  I do not pass on your home email or phone #.  After the program is over and if you want to give your SS that information - that is entirely up to you - the information is just used for me to be able to get a hold of you in the case we do not hear from you and the posting date for packages has come.

Problems do crop up - members through no fault of their own have things happen and no way to comunicate to me that they need help and assistance... should anyone not be able to finish up the program after the mail date comes - I step in and send packages to the individuals,  I was fully prepared for this last year and will be again this year - I take on this responsibility - I do not want any person disappointed at Christmas.

So enough about that - check the list and make sure if you signed up that your name is there... and soon I will post that the Questionaires are ready for your work on them... not too soon for that though - so many things to do - my cup runneth over at the moment - but there is plenty of time...

And for those that say - I filled that questionaire out last year - well just as soon as your SS santa posted that packages were away - that information was shredded as I no longer had any need for it - so yes you will have to fill another one out...

Phyllis - SS is whatever you want to give.  It can be 1 gift or 20 gifts - something very special for another quilter.  We have this group to help come up with quilty ideas to make for gifts - not just for the SS program but for all our friends/family/acquaintences.  A place to keep Christmas in your hearts all year long.  To think of what the season is all about and try and have that feeling all year round.

The secret santa program only limits you on the minimum you should spend which is the equivalent of 2 1/2 yards of fabric from a quilt shop.

Thea

For those of us working on SS all year when will we have the names of our recipient so that our gifts can be more personal?    Just curious.  Alsp I would like one from across the pond or in the northern frozen tundra of Canada....haven't done our of country yet and think it could be really fun.   But I am also happy with whomever works out.

Okay, I will try and explain this portion of how I select the names and the corresponding person - you all get a #  - I take a list of the names and each one is numbered -  I will write USA/overseas I then take that Number and put it in a bowl... I then take the SS people and they get the same - and those #'s are put in a 2nd bowl.

When I take the SS names if you do not want overseas because of any reason I put on that # - no overseas -

I then draw #'s and for example - out of bowl #1 I pull # 22 - on a page with just #'s I go down to 22 - I then draw a # from the 2nd bowl - and I pull 11 - next to the # 22 I put 11 -  I check both #s for that simple instruction - if 11 is an overseas and 22 has no overseas on the slip I drop 11 back in the bowl and draw a new number.

I do not select what part of the country anyone is from - this would be way too much work to figure out.  I am sorry about that but I try to keep this as anonymous as possible and leave it in the hands of the Lord who gets what.

Last year one of the members wanted specifically an overseas name and by the draw she got that - but believe me it was totally by random that it happened.  I had no idea as I did not specify that on her number - there are too many people that want to get a person from overseas and not enough overseas people to go around.

I do pray prior to doing the drawing that each individual recieve someone that they will click with and have a wonderful experience with.

So although you would love to have someone - I really have no idea what person you will get as the only restriction I put on them is those that do not want overseas for any reason.

I hope that you understand and that this is okay - it truly is an anonymous procedure -

I guess I should have said that afterwards I take those #s and go back to the page where the names are - I then send out the information to each person as to whom they have - and I forget so easily because I do not want to remember that I forgot who my SS person was and it was a total surprise when I got her gift last year.  Barbara can attest to this - I call it my selective memory - I put things away in a little room in my brain and lock the door - they are safe in there - some of these memories in there are bad as I learned to do this as a child so I wasn't overwhelmed but some of them are really good memories too that I can pull out when needed... not sure that I explained this at all well as I am in a ton of hip pain and lower back pain today from standing all day yesterday getting Mom settled at the NH...

Thea,

Please add me to the list. Jan in Rochester, NY.  It sounds like a lot of fun and the quilters that seem to "play" here are fun, caring people. I will watch for when you need additional information
