SewJo:

I'm pretty new to all this...but this sounds like something I'd be interested in.  If you can walk me thru it...I'd be interested.

Jo (SewJo)

SewJo

We have a program that we do called Secret Santa - the last couple of years we have started it around the end of September and you have a couple months to get some things together for a person that does not know you - or may know you but your name is a secret... then the first week of December we send our packages to the person for their Christmas gift.

Most of the items are selected with that individual in mind... some to do with quilting but not all... well I had an idea that this year we could have this group and we could work on small projects all year long that could but don't have to go into the package to be sent out.  I am trying to find projects that could be used for family and friends too... like the January project which is a pillowcase and February is a pot holder(instructions to come).

All our members in the group are welcome to do a tutorial - they just need to contact me to let me know what they want to do to make sure we don't over lap and I start the threads for these...Frances from over the pond is going to try and do a paper pieced project for us.  I am looking forward to it.

There is no price limit on what your package is full of we ask that it at least be a minimum of the cost of 2 1/2 yards of fabric.  We don't want anyone to feel as though we are breaking their piggy banks for this - it is supposed to be fun and something to look forward to.

We do ask that those with pets - like me - keep their pet dander away from the items as some are allergic to pets - and also that those who smoke keep their smoke away from the package.  We don't want to set anyone's allergies off... and this helps each of us.

That is about it... I will be posting our questionaire shortly over in pages where I am making a list of all those who are going to participate.  I take everyones name and assign a # to it - then I make up little pieces of paper with those #s on them and I have 2 bowls - one bowl for the SS and one bowl for the recipient - this way I try to be totally fair - I want to be totally fair.

We do have people from all over the world so although I put all the names in the same bowl if it happens that the name drawn ends up with someone who does not feel that they can afford to send something to a quilting sister / brother across the pond then I draw a new number for that person.  Those who do not want to send over the pond tell me via PM so that it is a private issue.  It worked out quite well this year - the Lord saw fit that I didn't have to redraw any #s - they fell just right.  Some of our members also want to be the one that sends over seas and recieve from overseas to get something from another country.

Our quilting sisters this past year from across the pond were very excited and happy to be included and found out that us Americans are very wonderful and generous people.  I got many happy replies from them... so it was fun.

Some of our members this year wanted to know who their person was all year long - so that they could "spy" and get to know their person and have lots of time to make or buy something special - so I am putting together a list and those members will find out early who their person is...

We had some nay sayers who felt that maybe people wouldn't stick with it for the whole year - and we shall see how it works out - I am hopeful that it will be okay and prayers to the Lord over it will see me through.  I have decided though that we will do the list and draw the names the middle of March for those going the long distance route - those others will get their names the end of September... although all names will be on one list - just some will already be issued their name...

If that made any sense and I hope it did.

The questions will be posted over in Pages sometime within the next month and then you will copy and paste them - and send the back to me via either PM here at QCA or via Private email to me at altheafoster@att.net.  That way I will be the only one with all your information and it won't be out here available for anyone to spy on you.  I print off these documents and put them in a binder - I get your name - address - phone - home email  - I give your name and address to your SS but the rest is for me if I have to try and get a hold of you if after a reasonable time your recipient has not rec'd a gift or you haven't posted that you mailed one out.  I take all those papers - as I did this year - after the program was over and destroy them so that even I don't have them... Oh and the questions that you are asked and answer that help your SS know a little about you are sent to your SS too and I keep them in that binder and destroy them at the end.

It is lots of fun and this last year was really exciting - every person that signed up to  be a SS did just that - it was awesome - you can go back to the main site and see threads that were written and the wonderful pictures of presents that each recipient rec'd.

that is about it - I am sure more of the members will add in about their experience - so join in!!! or wait and think about it - no pressure(arm twisting)...teehee

The SS program is wonderful! I asked for a person specifically from England. I had a ball finding things for her that were from the part of America where I lived, i.e. sunflower seeds from Kansas, Cherry Mash Candy Bars made only in Mo. I did run short of sewing time since I had to come to Kansas and be with Mom. My family even became involved and big debates would ensue over wither or not GB had Folgers Coffee LOL BTW they do not! I was right DH. LOL If you love giving and you love surprises and the Christmas Reason join this group. Oh and by the way, I have a new friend in England where I had none before, a TRULY GREAT GIFT. XOXOXOXOXOXOX Francis.............Melody

I have started the list in Pages so you can check and see if you name is on there...

I will shortly be posting a copy of the questionaire there - going through it to update it with some additions that were requested from last year - and I ask that when it is posted that you copy and past it and send me either a PM or an email with your answers to go in the SS Program 2013 binder.

As I stated before, I want you to know that any information you give me is only passed on to your SS.  I do not pass on your home email or phone #.  After the program is over and if you want to give your SS that information - that is entirely up to you - the information is just used for me to be able to get a hold of you in the case we do not hear from you and the posting date for packages has come.

Problems do crop up - members through no fault of their own have things happen and no way to comunicate to me that they need help and assistance... should anyone not be able to finish up the program after the mail date comes - I step in and send packages to the individuals,  I was fully prepared for this last year and will be again this year - I take on this responsibility - I do not want any person disappointed at Christmas.

So enough about that - check the list and make sure if you signed up that your name is there... and soon I will post that the Questionaires are ready for your work on them... not too soon for that though - so many things to do - my cup runneth over at the moment - but there is plenty of time...

And for those that say - I filled that questionaire out last year - well just as soon as your SS santa posted that packages were away - that information was shredded as I no longer had any need for it - so yes you will have to fill another one out...
