Take out 55 of the background 2 1/2 in squares and lay aside. Sew a dark 2 1/2 in square to all of the remaining 2 1/2 in background squares. Press seams to the dark. Now sew the remaining dark squares to the opposite side of the background square. You will have a dark, light, dark unit Like pictured.
Now sew the 55 remaining background to the remainder of your 2 patches to make 55 light, dark, light units. Like shown below.
You can now assemble these into 9 patch squares. Always start with the dark at the top and bottom and the light in the middle. I recommend that you try to not use the same dark patch in the same block if at all possible.
Press all seams toward the dark. You should end up with 6 1/2 in squares. Have fun and use lots of different fabrics for a really pretty look.
Sewing can begin.
Remember that this is a very simple project to get everyone's feet wet again. Then sometime around the first of July I will get another project going that will require more scraps and the ability to "loose control" Hope everyone will participate in that one too.
Finally! I've printed off the directions and now I can go to bed and start on this first thing in the morning...LOL - after the gardening, etc.
Looking forward to starting in the morning AND July for the other one. I have never done this before and I am quickly becoming addicted to finding the scraps :) Thanks Nana for posting this for us.
Got my first batch done. I won't do much sewing this weekend (if any). I have work later today and I plan an early night since I'm going to Keepsake Quilting Saturday for their annual tent sale. Sunday is our anniversary so will be doing stuff with DH.
I like this look already Nana. Thanks for doing this.
Oooohhhh Kris. At 3:31 AM you already have some sewing done. I can hardly focus on the computer screen now, much less sew a straight seam! LOL! I have a long day today and might not get any sewing done today at all. Good thing this isn't a race, happy stitching everyone.
School ends at 1:00 today. I hope to enter Scrapy Kindergarten by 1:30 no later than 2:00. Going to make by machine go zoom zoom.
Your squares look great. Your colors are looking so good together.
Your blocks are looking fantastic.
Kris, you're for sure the early bird. The blocks look great. Happy anniversary to you and DH.
This looks easy enough. I'll begin on my squares after work today. Looking forward to getting started. Thanks Nana.
OK> Got them...they were hidden in the rest of my e-mails. Sorry for the extra work I may have caused. All is good.
Wow, Kris! Great job! I love your colors. I think I'll just call you Speed Gonzalez, lol!
