Mimi:Kris I agree with you 200%. I don't think string piecing is something I really want to tackle
Yeah. I forgot to mention that I also bailed on "Roll Roll Cotton Boll" for the same reason. I do love the quilt and many of the ones in her new book (all have strings) so I might have to find the motivation to do at least one. I'll do one string block a week. That might help. LOL
Had the day off so was able to get Step 5 done. Now I have a village of orange 'houses!" I dug around in my stash and added some other fabrics, following Bonnie's admonition to use as many fabrics as possible. I don't have a huge variation. Here sampling of all my blocks.

Ooh very nice Judy. I love all your pieces.
Judy, I'm really loving all your blocks together so far. The purple really shines. You were so lucky to have off yesterday. Wish I had the same. But now I'm off until 1/2/13 so I'm ready to sew up a storm. Hoping everyone has a wonderful Christmas holiday.
Step 5 is done. This is interesting, I have no idea what the final layout will be. Bonnie said she is having fun keeping us guessing by scrambling thingsup.
In the beautiful Pacific Northwest!
Judy T. You Step 5 blocks are looking great! I really like your fabrics. This is a mysterious mystery quilt!
Thanks Kris and Mimi for your comments about my fabrics! Mimi--enjoy your vacation!!
Judy T-Bellingham:Step 5 is done.
Your step 5 is so rich in color. It is wonderful. I'm getting ready to cut my squares for step 5. First trying to catch up on all the discussion threads. Hope to have a picture by this afternoon. Looking forward to vacation from teaching too.
WTG Judy T. I like your fabrics here.
I didn't think I'd get any done this weekend but my machine is acting up on the project I'm quilting. Got everything cut and even sewed a few pieces.
Kris:Got everything cut and even sewed a few pieces.
Good for you Kris. I like how easy this mystery quilt is. Putting this together will be exciting. I was watching Quilt-Cam this afternoon and Bonnie said there will be no more teal/turquoise unless you want to use it in the border. So whatever you are using for that color this will be the last of it's use in the blocks. She also hinted that there will be more work with the constant (her black on white) in the next step.
Here's my step 5. Have to get back to getting ready to drive to my DD and family's home tomorrow after DH finishes work. Hope the roads won't be too messy. Everyone have a wonderful Christmas.
I love your colors you are making great progress. I am having trouble getting things done. My first geese where not the best, so as I put together step 4 I had some problems. I have step 5 cut, but have not started.
Nice work Mimi.
I didn't get to this today. Hopefully I can finish before the next step.
Mimi, your blocks look great! Love your purples and your turquoises. Safe travels and Merry Christmas to you!
My step five pieces are sewn.
They are great and I love your fabric, you have lots of variety. Unfortunately I am now feeling sick because I realize I put my blocks together wrong. I cut my 3.5 square in purple and my 2 inch in teal. I guess I was too distracted. Even with the color pictures in Bonnie's instructions.
I am not sure if I should scrap these blocks or wait tlll we put it together to see how it goes. I was so proud of myself for staying on schedule during the holiday :(
I probably have enough fabric to do another set :(
I love how cheerful these colors are.
I just ordered some background fabric. I am using grey and white instead of black and white. I only had 3 fabrics.
