Aurora Borealis

This is my version of the Aurora Borealis pattern from the book Twist and Turn Bargello. I scaled the pattern up to use 2" strips instead of the 1.5" strips specified in the book. The quilt finishes at 61" x 88". This is the fourth bargello I have completed, and the most challenging one yet. It was as much a color study as it was a bargello. I quilted it myself on my domestic sewing machine with a walking foot.

Bargello Heart Block

This block will join 11 other's made by the 'SewJourner's of Ohio' for one of their own's 60th birthday quilt gift. All block designs were left to the individual's discretion, but made from the same fabric group. I knew immediately that the chosen fabrics lent themselves to a stunning bargello'grading. By adhering the sewn/cut strips to grid-stabilizer, then using the fold and sew method, and then trimming to a heart shape and tacking down to the background block fabric, a raised 3-D heart was achieved. I then made my own outline braid from coordinating 1/8" ribbons and blind'sewed it around the heart. I can't wait to see all the blocks together made into Linda's quilt! `Sue

This way my first attempt at a Bargello. It is a wallhanging I made for one of my friends. I reversed the second panel, so it is going the other way, but after it was done I really didn't like the way it looked, but left it as is anyway. I plan to do a bed size bargello sometime in the future.

This is my own original pattern design called Fat Quarter Bargello Trip Around the World. It seemed only natural to me that you could make a bargello from fat quarters without wasting any fabric. When I could not find a pattern to work specifically with fat quarter I made my own. I named it Blooming Delight because it reminds me of the blooming onion. This is my third completed bargello quilt. It finshes at 64" x76". I quilted it myself on my domestic sewing machine with a walking foot.

This is a close up of the border I struggled with on the Pillar of Flame bargello. It was more work than the rest of the quilt combined. Why I am seduced by the beauty of these complicated borders?
