hello to all the new members of our group    i want to welcome, cyndi, joey, aleta, ginger, and nannie1.   we have a couple of projects going now. one of them, "snowbound" i think  you can still get free from bunny hill designs web site.     bunny hill should be announcing their new free block of the month in a couple of days, i can't wait to see it.     we will be starting a baltimore style quilt in the spring from  the book "baltimore's country cousins" , and would love to have you join in.  the more the merrier.      gini

good morning leslie,   i use 60 wt. cotton thread or silk thread.   don't go  out and buy thread when you are learning.  if you have some cotton 50 weight, that's fine.   mostly i match the thread color to the color of the applique piece.    silk you don't need to be as careful with the color, you more go by, value. it is real slippery though, you need to knot the thread behind the needle, without getting it too big, the knot.

your stitches shouldn't show too much.   you come up at an angle, but go straight down. i like to have my thread go down just a teensy tiny bit under the edge of the applique.   if you are too far forward or too far back when you go down, your stitch will show.   that's why i try to match the thread.

if you have really coarse fabric you might even need a little bigger thread.   and with batiks you would use the tiniest thrad.  i try to match as close as i can the thread size in the fabric to the thread size  of the fabric i am appliquing,  but matching color is more important

when i am really having a good day, i can use most any color of thread  and it won't show, but the planets all have to be in line  and the moon in the right house.   etc. gini

Kris, just looked at block one love it. i have to get a new ink cart. before I can print them out,I am going to save this and do it after I learn the art of hand turn applique, and i think I will use some wool also like she did, i have never used wool before so it will be another new learning experience for me.
