Thank you all for being so nice. The Baby Blue Eyes fabric was actually "cloudy sky" fabric. I kind of cut around the clouds.

I chose to do Baby blue eyes for my second block. Keeping it simple and working into more difficult ones. I thought my fabric fell a little flat and same looking so I decided to do a little shadow outline in some areas. Still sticking with the six inch blocks. Here's my pic:

I love your Baby Blue Eyes. The beads are really an original idea and give an excellent touch to the flower. The flower does not fall flat. Wonderful workmanship;!
Thank you Sheila and Emily. I am really enjoying these and starting to catch on getting the little curves worked into the leaves. Not being experienced, I didn't realize that if I put a little snip into the inner curve like when you make clothing it will fold in deeper and lay better.
very nice stephanie, you can also twist the fabric back and forth pretty vigorously on the fold line to stretch the fabric. most of the time this will give you enough "give" to get an inside curve, too.

your welcome and yes. if i have a tricky piece or fabric that is stiff, i crease it on the fold line with my fingernails quite firmly and i twist the innies. if the innie happens to be on the bias this is enough and works very well. it works not as well on the straight of grain, but i took a class from mary sorenson and she doesn't clip anything. she fingernail presses and twists the devil out of the fabric and she does the most exquisite applique. check out mary appliques.
