hi frank welcome to the group
hello tractorlewie, welcome to the applique group
Hello everyone! I mentioned in an early post that I was taking an Applique' 101 at my LQS. I really enjoyed the class (actually two 3 hr classes) & there were 6 of us so we got alot of individual attention too. The instructor was excellent. We also did a little heart using a black thread so we could actually see our stitches. They are going to offer an appliqué BOM class with this same instructor beginning in February that I've signed up for.
Here is my completed project from the class. It's not perfect but a good start. I had some challenges with the blue flowers but learned alot in the process. I learned how to make the bias stems using a Clover bias maker tool.
I'm ready for Country Cottages!
Pretty basket Patricia. You've done a good job with the appliqué.
Patricia Faye-
You did a great job on your first project. Is it all needle turn?

It is 'the starch applique' method" so not needle turn. She taught us to make templates using "no melt mylar" & a starch solution. Similar to using freezer paper but you remove the template before sewing it down.
beautiful job. really like your fabric choices.
my first class was one flower, one stem and two leaves. yours must have been advanced.
looks like you learned a lot
Your block is lovely - especially your choice of fabric and your workmanship. In my first class we were told we were going to do a Baltimore Album. Not knowing what that was, I went ahead and did it. The best quilt I ever did - and it took me 2 yrs and 3 mos of quilting morning, noon and night (just about). Keep at it. Applique is so rewarding.
Oy, I am trying out a new signature so you all might be getting numbers for a while.

Thank you all for the compliments. This was actually an Applique' 101 beginning class class. & she covered all the basics of applique'. The instructor actually created the pattern & used it so we could learn to do points, curves & stems (maybe one other thing I can recall off the top of my head.) Yes, I did learn alot from her.
patricia, your block is very nice. you had a good teacher and you must have been a great student.
If a pattern hasn't been decided on for 2013, I found one that I'm thinking I want to try. It's on fatcatpatterns.com and it's called Fiesta. It's worked on black and looks like it's along the lines of a Baltimore album. I think it's beautiful. It's 14.95 for the pattern, but since it's a past BOM, we could get the entire pattern all at once instead of one per month.
Just a suggestion from a lurker, lol!

Can you post the url for this pattern? I looked at the web site, but they don't have a search box and there are too many categories to look through.
Thanks
