felted wool is felt, but not all felt is from wool. you can get the craft felt that i don't think is made from wool. felting is a process where the fibers are smooshed together through a series of smooshing and washing and drying. you can felt knitted wool by washing and drying. if the craft felt is from wool, then it is from very short fibers.
i don't think the craft felt will hold up to washing. i haven't tried washing it but it doesn't look as substantial as felted wool

I have had this pattern for a while but never got around to making it. Makes me smile too. I like Pat Sloan a lot.
i googled felt, and i was right, the craft squares you get so cheap are a synthetic felt. you can get wool felt squares, but a square of it is around $2.00. you can tell by the feel. the synthetic is not as soft. i think the wool felt squares are also made out of shorter fibers, but i'm not sure on that.
oh, you can also felt woven wool like you find in clothes, this is what i get at the thrifts.

I have just been looking for the winter white, cream wool to add to my stash to use with flowers and such. I have found lots of blacks and greys and dark tweeds that I thought would make a pretty patchwork block and now I am adding some colors to the mix for applique and such.

Nana, here's a link to an online source. I've ordered from them and was really happy with the quality, especially the colors. They were so clear and vibrant. They may have the winter white you're looking for. They have antique white. Maybe that would be it. Colonial Crafts

Nana, I got lucky at the goodwill, found 2 cream colored wool skirts, yellows are what I am having trouble finding, That is about the only color I don't have yet. Also bought 8 wool jackets for .80cents lots of different colors. The ladies got a little upset when they asked what I was doing with it all and told them I would be cutting up. But who wears wool anymore LOL

I have a question. I am very new to applique and have purchased the pattern for the wildflowers. I love it. I have quite a number of small scraps that I can use in it so I am not at all worried about the fabric. I also have quite a variety of thread, some suitable for applique, some not. I did the second flower and it came out decent. I started the third and am not happy at all. I know what I need is a bit of practice. Does anyone know of a large applique that I can practice the basic technique on? I know I can just cut out shapes and sew, but would rather have something to look at in the long run. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I finished my last Wildflowers block last night! Yahoo, yippy, yehaww!!! I'll take pictures when I can. I'm so busy until after Thanksgiving that I don't think I'll have time. Next will be putting it all together...Next year, maybe...After the holidays.
Gini, I enjoyed this project more than any we've all done together so far. I am going to miss not having the little 6" block pinned to my applique pillow calling to me every night. As is always true with every project, I've learned so much from you with this project. Thanks for all you do.
