Enlarged all the block patterns for the Wildflower quilt to 125%. Will be making the blocks 8x8 instead of 6x6. Still a lot of little detail on most of the blocks. Some of the detail is embroider so should be too hard to do. Looking forward to starting in Apirl.
I found a great video about some stunning appliqué from Kay Mackenzie's blog. Take a look. The Tentmakers of Cairo.
Kris ,that was an amazing video, I could not believe how fast that one man was stitching . and the y madw beautiful wall hangings Barbara
EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
Barbara,
if I sewed that fast I'd probably be bleeding afterwards. I was totally amazed and how little preparation it took to do such intricate work.
Wow! What an awesome video. I wish I could go there and see all their work.

My pattern arrived in the mail today, and I was a bit concerned about some of those tiny, tiny flower parts, so thanks for pointing out that embroidery could be an option for those. I'd really rather not have to enlarge the pattern because 50x50 is about as big as I'd want for a wall hanging. I can't wait to pick up supplies and then to have Gini help me get started in Virginia Beach in April! Which do you think would be better to work with - regular quilting cotton or batiks? I know batiks crease so nicely, but are they harder to hand sew?
On the banks of the Mississippi River in north central Minnesota (Brainerd lakes area)
batiks can be harder to applique because their weave is so tight, but not all batiks. if you have a color you absolutely love bring it to VB
nancy, you don't have to use all 25 of the patterns. we could enlarge them to 8 or 12 inches, make a 4x4 block quilt out of 16 of them. that way you could pick out the easiest blocks or the ones you like the best. some of the small parts can be combined into one, with detail add by embroidery. i will have several blocks made by the time we go to VB, i'll bring them.

Please - what is VB?

Thank you. I would have been wondering.

Oh, but they're all so pretty! I guess I could research which ones actually grow in Minnesota.
Thanks, Gini!
Hi everyone,
Even though I will not be at the retreat in April, I hope I can keep up with you. I just ordered my pattern and hope to get my fabrics during the Christmas holidays. DH and I were supposed to drive to Ottawa (26 hours away) to see our 3 sons. Well it's not happening now since my DH injured his back and has a pinched and swollen nerve in his lower back. He can't walk or lay down. He was told it will take at least another week before the pain resorbs.... if he behaves. Being a very active person this is being very hard on him. This is a very hard time for me too as I won't be able to meet C's girl friend and spoil my boys. All the food I was getting ready, all for naught. Well I cried and now made my peace with it. I just need to pack the box to send tomorrow. I MISS them. So my whining session is over. Thanks for being such good listeners.

Gini!
Haha, you made me laugh! I spent 3 days cleaning my sewing room, then spent a couple hours there doing some applique, and now my sewing room is a wreck! I got to clean it all over again!

Shabby Fabrics started a new Free BOM today. I won't be starting this one now but the patterns won't be free forever.
thanks for the heads up, kris
