  • Cats in the studio.

Have any cats that likes to come hang with you in the studio? If so, I bet there been times when one has gotten in your way or lounges on your fabric. Here are some ideas that might help. Set up a cat tree in your studio so your cat(s) has a place to lounge besides on your fabrics. Set up a bird feeder...

  • Keeping your Quilt Block in the Order you want them.

I don't know about you but once I have finished with all my blocks and have them in the order I want them in on my quilt wall, I have a heck of a time keeping them in that order when I need to sew. So instead of the little round labels or post-its that everyone else likes to use I use the photo/scrapbook...

  • Barnaby's Bands - Winter 2012 Easy Quilts

I absolutely LOVE this quilt. When my Mush was alive she could often be found "helping" me with my quilts. As I was reading this pattern, I thought this would be a perfect quilt to quilt the sections before sewing them together. I plan on giving that a try. When? Well, that's a different...

  • Using Press-N-Seal for Quilting designs

This was the best tip I have received this year. Use Press-N-Seal for top quilting. Just place on design you want to use, trace with permanent marker, let dry, stick to area on quilt you want to sew and sew right through the Press-N-Seal. I am nearing the end of a large quilt and am so happy with the...

  • tips and tricks

Attach a self sticking magnetic strip to your sewing machine. You can use it to hold your small scissors or use when removing pins without crowding your sewing area with a pin holder.

  • use for leftover cotton batting scraps

I have a Swiffer wet jet, but do not like to use the chemicals on my hardwood floors, even the ones for hardwood leaves streaks. The Swiffer has a gripping surface to hold the pads, but I had used up all my dry pads and needed to damp mop the floors. AHA... I had some leftover 80/20 cottong batting,...

  • Screw driver substitute

I have found that a nickel (yep, five cents) is a very handy tool. It fits perfectly snuggly into the screws for my presser foot holder and for my needle clamp. I also like that the nickel doesn't get in the way of anything since it is the perfect diameter to fit into small spaces and it doesn't...

  • Re: I know where MY foot is

I was given a small magnetic bowl that works great for those stray feet, pins and small scissors. The bottom is weighted so it does not tip over or slide off the table. I think my daughter found it in the automotive department of a hardware store. Thanks Lisa for the idea.
