The throat space and everything is the same as the QE. It just has the ability to sew the 9mm as opposed to the 5.5mm. I decided I would rather have that additional width and forego the stitch regulator that was included with the QE. But since I do all my FMQ on the frame with my midarm I decided I didn't...

Nancy I have a KenQuilt 622 that came with a 12ft frame. It is designed to be strictly a midarm. I was able to get a really good deal on it because it was a trade in model that they refurbished. It is a very heavy machine and stays on my frame. I think even if I had bought a frame to be used with a DSM...

Nancy My machine has a 9 in throat and I quilt up to King size (120 - 124 inches) on mine. I have had to turn the quilt around a couple times because It was so thick that I couldn't roll the whole quilt into the machine throat. I have never had to turn my queen size.

Nancy I don't know alot about the 1600 but a 9 inch throat will work nicely on the frame.

Sandy Most of the carriages that you put your machine on to use with the frame has a power source in the handle so you don't need your foot pedal. It is all controlled by the handles that you use to move the machine over your quilt.

Eileen Actually some of the newer DSMs have the same throat space as my midarm. I can not remember which DSM I looked at that had a 9 in throat which is the same as my midarm. If one that size was put on a frame it would work really well.

Nancy KenQuilt is a brand. They also make longarms. All of their machines come with either a 12ft or 14ft frame. I love the machine just wish it was larger but I bought what I could afford. And love being able to quilt on a frame....so much easier.
