  • I figured out what to do with my long skinny Scraps!

I was cutting strips for a quilt . The fabric store usually gives you 1/2 inch extra, or a little more if you are lucky. My daughter is always collecting up my scraps and playing with them. She also has a habit of wanting to take all my ribbon for her hair. This time I took about six of those skinny...

  • Organizing scraps

I like to keep my scraps in plastic drawer units. I have labeled the drawers with the size (width) of the scraps. I started with 1inch wide pieces (all colors) and go up a quarter inch at a time. For instance my 2 inch drawer has strips that are 2 inches wide as well as squares and half square triangle...

  • Re: Did you work on a quilt today? #4

Marie and Barbara - the Mile a Minute is very similar to what Bonnie Hunter calls "Crumb" blocks - but I first saw it in Winter 2000 American Quilter - it was a revelation to me, and I have been making these blocks ever since, and loving them more and more! Before that I had tried to use up...

  • Re: It's Time for MQ V!

I've been looking through my magazines at the Christmas wall hangings. I made one last year for our motorhome. It was one of those last minute panels and I added some borders and then quilted around it. It really did turn out cute and the kids did like it, so that is important. I started to cut some...

  • Labelling storage

Just saw a show today on tv showing the use of chalkboard contact paper and thought about our sewing studios, and all those boxes, clear plastic tubs etc. we use for our fabric storage. Just cut a rectangle of this awesome sticky back chalkboard, write your title on label, and best yet- it is re-positionable...

  • United States Quilt Block Collection Quilt - Need help in gathering fabric

I am working on a quilt for my DH from the book published by House of White Birches. The book is United States Quilt Block Collection. I am hoping to have this complete for him by Christmas of this year, but that will all depend upon the help that I can get from my quilting friends on QCA. I really want...

  • long arm quilting

I am making a wall hanging from a picture my grandson made with construction paper. I would appreciate any feed back on the quilting-it is hard to see on greens although the dark green has a lot of squiggly lines to represent roots and worms under the ground. It appears the pictures got reversed. Oh...

  • Bits and Pieces, storage problem solved!

May 2011 Tip Contest Winner! You know those small fabric chunks that you can't bear to throw away?. I was putting them in a variety of things and tucking on shelfs or under things but very awkward to search through. I found one of those rolling file bins at a garage sale. I keep it under my sewing...
