  • Save thread, make baby quilt

To save thread I used to keep a scrap of fabric and run off on it at the end of a line of stitching. Now I keep 5" squares handy and sew two together when I come to the end of a line of stitching. This way I can use the sqares to keep joining until I get enough to make a baby or lap quilt. I am...

  • EQ7 Help with making a quilt with multiple log cabin blocks that are different colors

I found instructions for a quilt in an old magazine called Sweet Harmony. It's a picture quilt that has 399 blocks. 320 of them are courthouse steps and the others are a log cabin blocks. I thought that recreating the pattern in EQ7 would make it easier to work with, but the program will not let...

  • Merry Grinchmas Panel Quilt Question

Hello, I am working on the Dr. Seuss Merry Grinchmas Panel quilt. The pattern directs you to piece some blocks onto the background before cutting the postage stamp edge, while for other blocks, the background piece is cut to make a frame around the block. This seems confusing and unnecessary - I am wondering...

  • A surprising border!

So I recently did some "tube quilting". For those of you not familiar...you have two strips (2 1/2 inch each) of different colors sewn together and one 4 1/2 inch of a solid. You sew the 2 1/2 strips together (wof) and attach the solid to them (right sides together) and you have a tube. Use...

  • Re: Longarmers Share

Hi Cindy, I finally finished Braden's Zoom-Zoom quilt with its goodie pocket! The pocket is upside down because of the way that I folded it. It is so very soft. I am very very happy with this quilt. I found a little fire truck to put in the goodie pocket and it is shipping on Monday!

After unthreading the machine, I then sitch on the lines to make my pattern. This may take a bit longer than just...

  • Re: Thread

Robin, I always use cotton for piecing because it shrinks and blends better with the fabrics. But when quilting the quilt, I use whatever works best with the look I'm trying to achieve. I will say that most of the time its cotton, but in different weights. I also use the clear mono-filament thread...

  • Re: It's Time for MQ V!

I've been looking through my magazines at the Christmas wall hangings. I made one last year for our motorhome. It was one of those last minute panels and I added some borders and then quilted around it. It really did turn out cute and the kids did like it, so that is important. I started to cut some...
