  • Re: Machine quilting tips?

Gale Painter's tape...the blue kind... works great for marking any kind of straight line. As with anything you sew going in opposite directions is best if you can find a way to get the bulk through your machine. As for the gloves or the grips it is personal preference. If you can get a secure foundation...

  • Re: How would you quilt this?

Gale, You're going to think I'm nuts to have done this, but I'm about to start a quilt that also is rectangle-based, and have been thinking about how I would quilt it. I made up a simplified version of yours on EQ6, and put quilting in some of the blocks to illustrate my idea. This would...

Kris, thank you for sharing this info. I'm with Nancy ... I can now see a frame and dedicated DSM in my future. How exciting to think of getting all these quilt tops quilted.

Really? Can you work with a queen size quilt on that? (I don't see myself making anything bigger than that.) I'm really excited to think a frame might be within my reach! I've been put off by the packages at the store - up to $20,000 for an Avante, deluxe frame, software, etc.

  • Re: Fun N Done?

I put this in my WASTE NOT WANT NOT category of quilting.... I like the technique but I do not do the FUN AND DONE patterns... I use this method to stitch my practice batts together when I am trialing new patterns... and I often use this technique with orphan blocks. crumb and string blocks, blotto blocks...

  • Re: Special time of year for sewing

Hi Jo Ann, This is my first post. While I do quilt year round, I especially enjoy the fall. Here in the heart of Texas, fall arrives kind of late compared to other parts of the country, but as soon as it turns September, my thoughts naturally turn to the upcoming holidays, and I begin to get excited...

  • Using embroidery machine to quilt

I am sure there are others out there doing this but no one taught me to do this - just found and am doing it on my own. I am using outline/redwork designs to quilt on my quilts. It looks when finished as though I had it done by someone with a Statler Machine. I do the designs and then free motion a loopy...

  • Re: machine quilting

One thing that helped me improve my machine quilting was using quilters gloves. The fingers have some kind of stuff on them that helps to grip the fabric of the quilt so when you move it around it's easier to slide. I've heard some people just buying dishwashing gloves, making sure you buy the...
