  • Invisible thread and baby quilts

I'm about to machine quilt a real quilt for the first time--after practicing--and was wondering if invisible thread is appropriate for a flannel baby quilt. I don't know if there are safety issues for the baby, or if the filament will cut the flannel? Thanks!. Steph

  • Re: Do You Quilt on a Sewing Machine or Long Arm

I've always quilted all my quilts on my home sewing machine. I have quilted everything from preemie quilts to a king size double wedding ring. It is so gratifying when the quilt is done knowing you just spent endless hours making it as perfect as can be for someone you love! I will say that in the...

Hello Frances. Great question! I began quilting my quilts, even queen size, on a brother sewing machine. Nothing special. I graduated to a Pfaff Grand quilter a little over 2 years ago. I have it set up like a regular sewing machine. I do all my piecing and quilting on it. I could never afford to set...

  • Sewing machine quandry...

I recently had both of my singer sewing machines die on me...I love to quilt and play with the fabric. Now all i can do is look at the fabric. I have been searching for a new machine but have no clue what I should go for. I want something easy to use, multiple stitches, lettering and can easily handle...

  • Re: Thread

Robin, I always use cotton for piecing because it shrinks and blends better with the fabrics. But when quilting the quilt, I use whatever works best with the look I'm trying to achieve. I will say that most of the time its cotton, but in different weights. I also use the clear mono-filament thread...

  • Removing quilting stitches

Hi everyone, Over the weekend I managed to actually start quilting my baby quilt. I tested the stitches on a sandwich and adjusted and tested again and they seemed ok, ssooooo, I began to motion...and all went well..for awhile. My thread started breaking, so I stopped and cleaned and oiled...

  • Re: machine quilting a queen size

Good for you Jerika! At first I was intimidated putting a huge quilt into that tiny machine, (or so it seemed), but now its second nature. Maneuvering the quilt almost seems natural. When family or friends come over and watch they always ask how I do that....I always reply with I don't know, I just...

  • Re: Finishing your quilt when using appliques

Wendy, I don't think there are any rules in quilting. It all comes down to personal preference. Personally, I quilt around my applique motifs' because I want them to stand out. And the hole in the actually looks really neat because you can see the shape of the motif from the front!...

  • Has anyone used Block Party Studios panels in their quilts?

I have an Irish Blessings panel from block party studios. It has 3 panels...2 are actually 8 1/2" squares and one is like 14x18 I think. I would like to make a 'quick quilt' for a wedding at the end of October and include these panels. I am usually pretty good at coming up with a pattern...

  • Re: Quilting a small piece.

When my material shifts I check a few things first: Are there enough pins? Make sure they are no more than a fist apart. Are the feed dogs down/covered? Some machines have adjustable presser for the presser foot...can you loosen a bit? If all else fails try a walking foot. (Although I don't like...
