I'm about to machine quilt a real quilt for the first time--after practicing--and was wondering if invisible thread is appropriate for a flannel baby quilt. I don't know if there are safety issues for the baby, or if the filament will cut the flannel? Thanks!. Steph

I've always quilted all my quilts on my home sewing machine. I have quilted everything from preemie quilts to a king size double wedding ring. It is so gratifying when the quilt is done knowing you just spent endless hours making it as perfect as can be for someone you love! I will say that in the...

I currently have a finished top, already to quilt. This is the part that frightens me. I could easily screw up my beautiful top. Most of my quilts wind up being just meandered, becasue I am to chicken to do anything else. I spend time at work, in meetings, doodling my quilting patterns, but when I sit...

Hello Frances. Great question! I began quilting my quilts, even queen size, on a brother sewing machine. Nothing special. I graduated to a Pfaff Grand quilter a little over 2 years ago. I have it set up like a regular sewing machine. I do all my piecing and quilting on it. I could never afford to set...

I recently had both of my singer sewing machines die on me...I love to quilt and play with the fabric. Now all i can do is look at the fabric. I have been searching for a new machine but have no clue what I should go for. I want something easy to use, multiple stitches, lettering and can easily handle...

Robin, I always use cotton for piecing because it shrinks and blends better with the fabrics. But when quilting the quilt, I use whatever works best with the look I'm trying to achieve. I will say that most of the time its cotton, but in different weights. I also use the clear mono-filament thread...

Hi everyone, Over the weekend I managed to actually start quilting my baby quilt. I tested the stitches on a sandwich and adjusted and tested again and they seemed ok, ssooooo, I began to quilt..free motion...and all went well..for awhile. My thread started breaking, so I stopped and cleaned and oiled...

Good for you Jerika! At first I was intimidated putting a huge quilt into that tiny machine, (or so it seemed), but now its second nature. Maneuvering the quilt almost seems natural. When family or friends come over and watch they always ask how I do that....I always reply with I don't know, I just...

I've been looking through my magazines at the Christmas wall hangings. I made one last year for our motorhome. It was one of those last minute panels and I added some borders and then quilted around it. It really did turn out cute and the kids did like it, so that is important. I started to cut some...

Wendy, I don't think there are any rules in quilting. It all comes down to personal preference. Personally, I quilt around my applique motifs' because I want them to stand out. And the hole in the back...it actually looks really neat because you can see the shape of the motif from the front!...
