  • Misbehaving fabric

I purchased some "Quilters Solid White" fabric to make some small table cloths. I always prewash and starch the fabric before using the them. For this project I purchased 9 yards and thought it would be too much for the washing machine at one time, so I cut a piece that was 74 inches long....

  • choosing fabric for a quilt

When I plan a new quilt, I go thru my fabric stash as the first step in choosing fabrics. Then I usually have to head to the quilt store or on-line to find additional fabrics. In addition to swatches from my chosen fabrics; I take the information printed on the salvages. This will show the fabric manufacturer...

  • Re: To prewash or not to prewash and why

When I first started quilting I prewashed too...but not anymore! I found that its easier to cut, piece and quilt fabric before its washed. After I finish the quilt, I was it. I really like the way my quilts look when they are washed after quilting. It gives it more of an antique look. The other thing...

  • Re: Counting projects

I have to say I'm with you on this one. How can anyone resist fabic store sales? I know about 5 years ago I decided to get rid of my stash and took it over to the local store and donated all the fabric to ladies who were making quilts for Childrens Hospital. When I came in I asked the Manager (who...

  • United States Quilt Block Collection Quilt - Need help in gathering fabric

I am working on a quilt for my DH from the book published by House of White Birches. The book is United States Quilt Block Collection. I am hoping to have this complete for him by Christmas of this year, but that will all depend upon the help that I can get from my quilting friends on QCA. I really want...

  • Re: What are you up to today? #3

I worked and worked and worked on piecing a back for a long quilt. First the material wasn't square so off to the store for more fabric-this was yesterday. Then I find the muslin didn't match, but I had enough if I did 3 pieces. Got it done and the seams faced opposite each other. So out comes...

  • Re: Cleaning an old stained quilt

You might try the color catcher sheets put out by Clorox, I think. The box says Color Catcher Sheets. They do work. If the color has set, you might use OXI Clean in a tub of warm water. Put the OXI Clean in with the water and mix before you put the quilt in. Let the quilt soak for up to 24 hrs. Check...

  • re: Quilting and Yoga

Good Monday morning to you Heather and Happy Valentine's Day! Yes, it sounds like Ashtanga is for you for sure - and there are so many poses that you're likely not to get bored. I began my yoga classes at the Y - but so many studios have started up in our neighborhood and close vicinity that...
