  • Is it always necessary to wash fabric scraps before piecing?

I have been given a large supply of fabric scraps - many are very small pieces. I would like to use these in a scrappy quilt but but I'm not sure whether they have been pre-washed. I hate to think of the ravelly mess I would end up with if I had to wash all the pieces first. I would think the quilting...

  • Shopping for fabric at sales

I'm still fairly new at all of this. The patterns I've made so far have either been from a book or class and those had the fabric requirements and color suggestions. My local shop is having their year end blow out sale tomorrow and Saturday and I'm thinking about picking up some fabric. I...

  • Re: Scraps

I just read Nana's reply and I am going to start sorting and cutting the way she suggested. I have so many scraps and no idea what to do with them, it was overwhelming. Now I have a starting point. Thanks for the tips from all the replies.Bettie

  • Help! Lack of fabric...

Hi! I would love some advice! I have started sewing the October Weekend quilt (http://www.keepsakequilting.com/productdetail/7199.htm). Instead of using the background fabrics they called for (nature pattern fabric, i.e. rocks, bugs, etc.), I decided to use a very, very dark blue, almost black, with...

  • Re: need pattern idea for a Black and White quilt w/ one other color for accent.

Peggy, I used a turning twenty pattern with a slight modification. Also used Lime green for an accent. It is a very easy quick one to make and fuschia would be an awesome accent. Takes 20 fat quarters.

  • Fabric for Unknown Use or New Home

I've got several pieces of upholstery quality (Used on church pews, restaurant seats, interior design) that are in 1 yard to several yard pieces. Any suggestions on use? I can only use so many shopping bags even if the baggers wish I'd revise or lose a few. What type of quilt would you do with...

  • Re: Adding to the stash

I think you'll get a lot of differing answers on this one. As I've been building my stash, I started buying a minimum of one yard, two yards if I really liked it, and up to 3 yards if it was a large print that I thought might make a nice border. Sometimes I would buy fat quarters if they were...

  • Fabric stash

I have been quilting for 2 years and have accumulated lots of little left over pieces of fabric. What is an easy way to store them so I can easily find pieces to use in new quilts. Should they be stored by color? Should they be stored by the type of fabric? How do you store your stash? Sharon
