• Venetian Dreams Quilt pattern question

Hi! I am making a Venetian Dreams pattern quilt. It is so pretty I don't want to distract from its design, but I am getting bored with the blocks. I have 6 & I need at least 12 --- I was thinking of making some unique borders to make it bigger & maybe having 9 blocks instead of 12..... any...

  • Re: Looking for Long Arm Advice - Need your experience

Two years ago, I bought my HQ18 Avante. Yes, I would buy it again! I have it set up at 12 ft, it takes up most of my basement. I do not have the ProStitcher. It's an extremely easy, forgiving machine to learn on. Things I would want to know: 1) At the time I bought my machine, the Handihandles would...

  • A surprising border!

So I recently did some "tube quilting". For those of you not have two strips (2 1/2 inch each) of different colors sewn together and one 4 1/2 inch of a solid. You sew the 2 1/2 strips together (wof) and attach the solid to them (right sides together) and you have a tube. Use...

  • Opinions Requested

I have been working on a Wonky Log Cabin lap quilt, done in black, off white, and shades of grays. The blocks will finish at 12", which will make this top 36" square. I need to get the lap quilt to at least 40" square, but I do not want to add any blocks. Nor do I think I want to add sashing...

  • Re: Did You Work on a Quilt Today? #5

Thanks Barbara for both threads. Actually all's I'm going to do is add a large border. That way I can still follow the pattern, which is for a novice like me. Yep, I definately feel like I bit off more than I can chew, but I think it'll work. The actuall pattern is for a twin bed, so I'll...

  • Re: Block size for border

Thanks, I found this site really helpful. I've checked Quiltville too. I guess what I wanted was a chart that would give me different sizes of finished blocks. Oh, well! I have tried several starting square sizes and I have about decided on 7 inch squares. We will see. thanks for the help.
pin the middles together, and if it is a big quilt, i will pin the 1/4 and 3/4 points. ease to fit.
I had myself worried with my last project. I had done the "measure in the middle" thing, but then when I went to pin the border on, it looked like it was...

  • Re: Questions about borders

That's the beauty of making a quilt. You may follow a pattern, but its your own creation! So make it any way you need/want to! I have put an extra border or made it bigger on the top and bottom to give the quilt some extra length.
