  • I'm NEW -- Time-sensitive advice please on applique

TECHNIQUE CHOSEN: Primarily hand-turn applique Either machine or hand quilting KEY QUESTION: Will hand-turn applique be durable enough for a baby quilt? (assuming I do it right) BACKGROUND INFO: I've made a personal commitment to myself to create an applique baby quilt (crib size 45X60) for my first...

  • Re: Did You Work on a Quilt Today? #5

Here is the second quilt with the jungle prints. I started it at 9:00pm last night thinking I would just get it cut out but ended up staying up until it was done around 1:00 am. At least it is done. I have 3 quilts I have to get quilted before I can quilt these two but it is a relief in my mind to know...

  • Invisible thread and baby quilts

I'm about to machine quilt a real quilt for the first time--after practicing--and was wondering if invisible thread is appropriate for a flannel baby quilt. I don't know if there are safety issues for the baby, or if the filament will cut the flannel? Thanks!. Steph

I love to do the swirls with loops and hearts on baby quilts. This design seems to give enough density that it will hold up for decades and looks adorable and suitable for baby!

  • Re: Longarmers Share

I have a long arm system and I would gladly load and baste anyone's quilt for just $15.00. Any takers out there? I use either regular cotton thread at 6 stitches per inch or dissolving thread. The dissolving thread will disappear in warm water (usually in your tub) after you have finished your quilt...

  • Re: Did you work on a quilt today? #3

Robyn, My very 1st quilt "LOVE IN BLUE" was a 9 patch lap lap (a full size quilt, quilted in my lap, block by block) as taught by Georgia Bonesteel. I watched her show on GPB for a long time, finally had to try my hand. Took my sandwiches everywhere, on planes, in trucks, to visit friends and...

  • Re: "Piece" of family history

You are so fortunate to have those quilt pieces to pass on to you niece or nephew. I get the special quilt soap from the quilt shop and I have seen some of those fabrics or very close patterns on some of the ebay stores who sell reproduction fabrics. You might want to reinforce some of the seams by hand...

  • What is the hardest part about quilting?

I'm getting ready to start my little window pane baby qulit. I'm new to quliting. I am thinking I'll just cut and sew blocks and strips just like anything else I do, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. So tell me what the hardest part of quilting for you is. Also, what should...

  • Re: Who loves to combine quilting and machine embroidery?

Hi Kim, when time permits, I do baby quilts with machine embroidery. My family members loved them. I don't digitize my designs. I have a Bernina 440QE with embroidery module. I found some good quilting designs on ebay andDesign By Sick The picture of Spiderman quilt...
