  • Seeking a good reference book for sewing....

If you are like me, you've collected sewing books over the years. What REFERENCE book on sewing have you found to be your favorite, not necessarily just quilting. My niece is getting a sewing machine soon and I thought I could recommend a good book for her mother to give her for Christmas. I don't...

  • machine quilting hand embroidered quilts

I am looking for advise on machine quilting embroidered quilt tops. Some have quilting lines that covers the whole square while others have a quilting line around the edge of an 8x8 square of each picture. I am thinking this might be to large an area to leave un-quilted. The pictures are to narrow to...

  • Re: Looking for Long Arm Advice - Need your experience

Two years ago, I bought my HQ18 Avante. Yes, I would buy it again! I have it set up at 12 ft, it takes up most of my basement. I do not have the ProStitcher. It's an extremely easy, forgiving machine to learn on. Things I would want to know: 1) At the time I bought my machine, the Handihandles would...

  • Iron Transfer onto block

Good morning! I have made several quilts but have not played around with transferring pictures or designs onto a block to be incorporated into the quilt. I have a new project in mind where I have designed blocks to resemble window panes. "Inside" the window panes I am then going to applique...

  • Hand Pieced tops - some are old. SIL wants to machine quilt them.

Hi, I recently lost a family member who had several hand pieced tops. Most of the patches are 1.5 inches by 2 inches, though there are some smaller.Fabric is cotton though thread counts vary within a top. My Sister in law wants some of the tops and wants to send them off for machine quilting. I am concerned...

  • Re: changing block size.

http://www.quiltersclubofamerica.com/groups/parasols__fabric/media/p/435622.aspx Bev, I don't know if this is going to work, but here we go. To all: Thanks for the formula that helps a great deal. The above picture is a block I made for the CW/KT Boarderland Butternut and Blue by B. Brackman. She...

  • changing block size.

How do you go about changing a blocks size, say from 14" to 8" when the block has angles and curves? I did a block that resembled a sunflower for one quilt and now need to reduce it for another quilt. This will have to be without the benefit of a quilting program. Just my mathematical and artistic...

  • Quilt as you go Information

I am looking for recommendations for books or videos to learn the quilt as you go technique. I'd be interested in your recommendations -- particularly for sashed QAYO techniques or techniques that don't require hand stitching. Thanks!

  • So what should I quilt on the quilt?

OK, I now have the Drunkards Flower Path loaded and ready to quilt. I added butterflies around the center. I am just wondering should I do an overall or should I work with each circle and the white area around around each circle and frame of it? Just can not decide. What color thread should I use? I...

  • camoflage fabric

Does anyone have a source for camouflage quilting fabric? My husband has stated very clearly that it's "his turn" for a quilt and was specific on his fabric request. I purchased "Realtree" fabric that turns out to be canvas. I hesitate to combine it in a quilt with traditional...
