When hand stitching of any kind, I spend more time taking out knots and tangles in my thread than getting any sewing done. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips?

Welcome Robin, For piecing the quilt 40-50wt thread and for Quilting I usually start with at least a 40 wt thread. As for manufacturer, I agree that your machine will dictate what it likes and dislikes. My machine, BabyLock Symphony, Love Guterman and Superior threads but detests Coats & Clark. judylee
