When I have trouble choosing which color fabric to use, I print a copy of the fabric on my printer and some squares of the fabrics I plan to use. Then I do it again with another background fabric choice and the same sqs.of fabrics I am using in my blocks. Comparing them this way really helps.
Pam, I like your idea and will be trying it on my next project ! Thanks, Susan
Thanks... I do it for all new quilts now and am always glad with the results.
I love this idea, but I was wondering if you have any issues with the coloring of your printer. Does it changed the colors of the fabric at all?

Yes, it can be a little off color, butis generally close enough to tell if it going to work.
Also works well for trying to determine if a fabric that 'reads' as a solid works, or one that doesn't have enough contrast. Try it out on several colorways, it gets to be addictimg!
Usually I do it on computer but the applique I'm working on now I think i'm gonna have to wing it.
