Sooo.. I have made several 'jelly roll race' quilts and really love them :) even a cute baby one with a honey bun... so I thought I would use all pok a dot 2.5inch strips... but I don't like it at all... from just a few feet away it looks like solid strips and well to me plain. So any ideas how to maybe cut it up? and make a new pattern?
here is a pic..
and a close view
You can appliqué something on top of it. Maybe like a silhouette. Just a thought.
I ws just gonna say the same as Kris. Somewhere I saw a great race quilt with fun flowers appliqued to it. ...
Quilters are people who strip so they won't go topless.
Yes, big simple flowers, circles, or hearts. Here's some I found when I searched google images for "applique on jelly roll quilt"
I like the appliqué idea :) Big BIG flowers :) I do also love the cats ;)
so that may be better then recutting you think? I can draw out some flowers on paper and lay them on it to get an idea.
Well Kris and CC and Jacy, great minds think alike. I was also going to suggest that. I also thought of cutting it into 4 equal parts and have the stripes going in different directions. I love the flowers and cats appliqued a lot.
I believe nothing will change by cutting up. From a distance whether in blocks or rows like the jelly roll race you will still read like a solid. Customers used to think I was crazy when they asked me to cut fabric for a project for them and I would place the bolts on top of each other showing only about 3" of each bolt. I then had them step back at least 6 feet. You have no idea how many fabric changes took place before cutting after they got the big picture but before investing any time into construction. I would applique with a design of your choice. Cut the paper as you planned, pin on and step back. You may just love it then.
Yes, go for the applique. It will be wonderful.
Point to remember, if you don't love it, someone else will !! Maybe big bubbles for your appliqué?
Just one more idea I had. With all the beautiful colors, maybe a tree of life. Just my little 2 cents.
Georgetown CA I'd Rather Be Quilting
I like it as is. I think some great white big stitch wavy quilting between quilted in the ditch in each strip will make it stand out perfectly. What's not to love, lots of beautiful colors, simple lines. Love it, actually, needs no fixing.
