I agree Bonita.  Beautiful young lady.

What have I been up to today? Teaching my DGD#1 to sew on a machine.  She was so excited and kept saying this is so much fun!  I had some HST's left over from my failed state swap block and let her use them to make a pillow top.  She sewed the squares together, and picked the quilting design.  I quilted it and she sewed the envelope back to the front.  Since she is not quite seven, I thought the iron, rotary cutter and pinning would be my responsibility and the machine was on its lowest speed.  Then she sewed two fairy pillow tops. I could sense she was tiring so I told her I would finish them for her.  I think she did very well for her first experience.

That is precious, can't wait until my granddaughter is born and I can teach her to sew.  My own daughters never showed any interest in sewing/quilting their own, just receiving those that Mom made.

Thanks Karla.  My DD never wanted anything to do with sewing or needlecrafts either.  My son was the one that wanted me to teach him to knit.  LOL.

I have 4 grandsons (and expecting a granddaughter in December).  I have taught the 14 year old to use the sewing machine and he made a pillow for his mother.  Now all he has on his mind is the truck he is rebuilding with his grandpa (my DH) and girls, of course.  The 8 and 9 year old I have taught some hand sewing and when they get back from their father's at the end of the summer, I will probably start them on the sewing machine, one of my older ones of course because they are destructive.

Thanks Mimi, she did a great job and she's a sweetheart too. She looks so proud of her pillow. DGD wants to help but she's a bit to young to use the machine yet. But I let her do other things and she loves it. We can't wait for her to get a bit older, maybe around 7 or 8.

Mimi

She did a fantastic job with those points on  the pinwheels.  She will be quilting before you know it. Beautiful young lady.

Thanks Nana and Bonita.  In all fairness I did the pinning and she did the sewing.  I also put a 3 inch piece of tape on the scant 1/4 inch spot on the machine's bed.  That's what she's watching so intently in the picture.  But I agree soon she will be asking to make quilts for her dolls and then bigger ones too, I hope.  Why wasn't raising our kids as much fun as being with our grand kids?

The pillow looks great!  I sure wish I would've started quilting at her age.

This is a pic of what i've been working on.  That is if I can get it posted right my new computer is a learning curve.
