I am going to make a twin size quilt for my 5 year old DGD's new twin bed.  Is an 8" block too big do you think?  What would be a good size block?  I haven't even started looking at patterns yet.

An 8 in block will work fine for a twin size quilt.

I think anywhere from 8 to 12" will be good. I made one with 24 10" blocks, 6 rows of 4 blocks. With sashing and borders it worked out to be a good size.
