I have a new name, thanks to my son and daughter! It's Grandma Mary!!!!! Yep...I am gonna be a grandma! They are getting married March 23 and my youngest son and I will drive out to California (from Tennessee) for the wedding. They've been together for a while and she tried fertility drugs but to no avail. They (and I) accepted that they wouldn't have children and I told them they could have a wonderful life together without them. He is 34 and she is around 40 and they truly are soul mates. I told them that so long as they are happy together, that's all that matters and not to think I put any pressure on them to make me a grandma.
Well...guess that was the key. Once all pressure was off, they get pregnant! The wedding was already planned and she isn't far along so won't have to let out the dress.
I am over the moon with delight. I had resigned myself to never having grandchildren. My 31 year old can barely take care of himself, much less a family...very intelligent but not much common sense...hmmm...maybe he should go into politics...oops...was that out loud?
Anyway...I'm contemplating an official name change to Grandma Mary Hayden. Can I legally do that? lol
Congrats Mary! There is NOTHING like being a Grandma! Those kids are just super special! So happy for you!!!

Congratulations, Mary!! Yes, being a grandma is the best job in the world and so rewarding when little ones call your name, Grandma!!
Actually, the old adage if I had known how much fun there were, I would have had them first is so true!

oh, my! my grammar. Should be they are, would have had them first.
oops! should be, they were.
Congrats Mary. You have a lot of fun ahead of you. Making baby quilts, sewing for the nursury and then later comes the mending. Holes in the jeans, quilts for the school road trips, and on and on. Such fun. I love having my Grandkids, hand me something and asking Grandma Mac can you fix this? Or one of them saying Grandma Mac -- Mom said you could probably sew one of these for me!
