I noticed a tool that fascinated me the other day. I know I saw it on this site. It was a ruler that had an open area in which you could cut your log cabin strips easily. Does anyone know where I can buy this wonderful ruler? I am a new quilter and would like anything that would help me do things better and faster. Thank you in advance for your help.
I was looking at a quilt kit and it offered a CD which gave some instruction on how to do the cutting of the strips. The woman in the show-and-tell used the ruler.
It was probably a June Tailor Shape Cut ruler. It is 12 in square with slits every 1/2 in to cut thru. It is great for cutting strips and squares as well. I bought mine at JoAnn's but alot of fabric shops have them. I also think I saw them online at Connecting Threads.

Nana, did you know June Tailor makes one that is 18 inches long? I'd like to get one of those at some point.
On the banks of the Mississippi River in north central Minnesota (Brainerd lakes area)
Nancy I bought the 18" recently on sale. Don't remember where or how much but it was a good price. Joanne's probably over the holidays.

I have seen the 18 in ones but I haven't been willing to pay the price they were asking....LOL
Nana - with the size quilts you make, you would love the 18" one. I have both but generally use the larger one most of the time. It is a great ruler.
The item I have sticker shock over is the revolving cutting mat by Olfa - would love the large one but haven't talked myself into it.........yet!

Life is like a quilt...bits & pieces, joy & sorrow, stitched with love

I love that cutting mat! Joann's has it on sale right now, 40% off. http://www.joann.com/olfa-spinning-rotary-mat-17-x17-/prd791790/
You could use a 50% or 60% coupon when it's not on sale for an even better deal!
I got my revolving mat from Connecting Threads when they were having a big sale on notions. They can be found at reasonable prices you just have to hunt for them.
Oh my goodness I'm so glad you asked this question. I recently bought tons of fabric to make a log cabin quilt and the book, Log Cabin ABCs by Marti Michell. She references rulers that she sells and I wanted to check in here first before buying one!
That's what I did --got it at 50% off during a Joann's sale. I love it. Really a big help when doing my dissappearing four patch quilt. Ginny
