Max,
Your quilt is wonderful. I love the colors and the pattern.
This is a good example of what can be done with plain fabrics.

Carol from Pitts-- WOW!! I love it! I just keep looking at each block....WOW! I have some of this fabric I've been saving for the backing for a black/white quilt for a guy. It's just the kind of wonderful print a man would love. But I NEVER dreamed it could be made to look like your quilt! You should be jumping up and down with joy how it turned out.

Judy T-Bellingham: I would be fascinated to do this sort of quilt. But I think I'd need a hands on class to figure it out. Carol, how much fabric did it take you to make this? What are the dimensions of your quilt?

Judy,
The quilt took about 4 yds of the print. The amount needed depends on the size of the repeat in the pattern. Large prints with "movement" and not much solid space work best. A lot of large prints seem to have a 24-inch repeat. You need 6 repeats for a hexagon shape. So that's where the 4 yds come in. (6x24") The completed quilt with borders is about 67 X 72 or something like that.
The book I used is "One Block Wonders" by Maxine Rosenthal. The instructions are very easy to follow. She explains the process well, from selection of fabric to stacking and cutting, and suggestions for arranging the blocks. Really, you should do one!

Thanks Carol. That's the book I was looking at on Amazon. Perhaps I will try this if I can find the right fabric.

Beautiful, I love one block wonders, love the pop of red
Thanks, Everyone, for the compliments on my Dragon Disarray! I couldn't wait to share it with someone, and since I won't be seeing my guyfriend today, you all are the first to see it.
Today I'm starting to cut fabric for a kaleidoscope quilt in three shades of purple.
Craftsy BOM 2013 is now posted on Craftsy if anyone is interested.
xoxoxo,
Thanks MM, I had a look but decided to go with Amy's (last years BOM instructor) BOM on her website. Join for $7.95 for the years blocks and get a block a month. She's doing traditional blocks from the ladies of 1933, check it out. Thought I might get my feet wet with period fabric with this one.
