Frances Posted: Sun, Jul 29 2012 12:26 AM

You know when you have a sudden thought and it snowballs, well thats me.  I had a sudden thought that i do nothing to raise money for charity, and this is something that i would like to change. I also realised that the men that i work with wear some really good ties, so i thought i could get them to donate some ties and i would make a quilt and raffle it at work to raise money for a charity called Children in Need.

So i sent round an email some of the wonderful people that i work with have already brought in ties, more are promised.

I have found a quilt pattern called Birds in the Air, i am basing it on a anti slavery quilt that was shown in Vintage quilts magazine, which was made using silk.

So now its official im crazy.

Wish me luck, i think i will need it.

By the way here are the pictures of the quilt i am basing it on.

Wish me luck.

lots of love

Frances,

I applaud your efforts and I'm confident you'll do a marvellous job with this project.

This is a great quilt. I read about it on Barbara Brackman's blog last year.

Clare,

They dont take long to unpick, and there is quite a bit of fabric on a tie.

lots of love

Way to go!! You're the right kind of  Crazy, Lady - You're an inspiration to us all, Frances. Be sure to post picks when you get it done.

I guess I am slow. How are you going to make a pattern like that with mens ties? Maybe the IV meds they gave me at the hosp. overnight have fogged my brain, but I don't understand.

No honey you are not slow, your mind just isnt warped like mine, okay you take a mans tie (not your husbands favourite one) and you unpick it (or i think you call it froging) so that you are left with just the fabric because i love English paper piecing i will be doing it that way with paper templates (there is more fabric in a tie than you think).

Sukochi once i get started i will post pictures, but i hope this makes it clearer.

lots of love and get better soon.
