I run a quilt retreat each year sponsored by my quilt ministry, Quilts from the Bluffs. This year's theme is UFO's and I thought I would see if anyone had any ideas for decorations, activities, sayings, poems, etc. that would have relevance at a retreat. We have some ideas but I know there is so much creative juices out there or UFO-themed experience that I wanted to tap into that as well.
Here is my brain child (and why I need help from others!) I thought I would add some UFO quips in the retreat packet we send out and this may or may not be included.

EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
it would be fun to decorate with flying saucers hanging from the ceiling and little antennaed green men lurking around. do you have door prizes? maybe hide a little green man and the first one to find him gets a prize or a ufo that someone wants to ditch. ok, ditch is not a good word, how about passing on a wonderful ufoish heirloom that you don't have time to finish.
everyone could bring their lonely blocks (only call them alien blocks) and redistibute them and see if anyone can finish a great quilt with one. or you could all join your alien blocks for a great sampler quilt for your ministry.

i'm sorry, i'm having an issue with delayed posts so there were two the same. and now they won't let me post to this thread, it said it was moderating or something. i'll try to think of some more for you jeanine
put out bowls of small mars bars, do they still make them?
you can get some marshmellows and use the big white ones for the body ,get some color toothpicks and break in half for the anntenna, and then put little color marshmellows on them. you could put on a little space theme napkin and place one of those Mars bars with them and name at each persons sewing station.

have a cool set of antennae made up for people to wear and pass around. like the first one to finish a quilt top gets the antenna, then if someone else does something cool it gets passed to that person.
this is pretty fun, jeanine, i'll need to go look up the names of some old science fiction movies and get some more ideas.

"The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light off a quilt." from quilts in black
The day will arrive when the governments of earth will finally admit we are not alone, that humans have come face-to-face with other quilts from the cosmos.Anyone still on the fence about the existence of UFOs must contend with the testimonies of these respected and honored men." RAAF CAPTURES FLYING quilt ON RANCH IN ROSWELL REGION"No Details of Flying rectangle are Revealed"
(referring to crash retrieval in New Mexico desert in July of 1947 and its subsequent security classification) "I must insist upon full access to quilts recovered... The Army grabbed one and would not let us have it for cursory examination."J. Edgar Hoover, FBI Director, 1947
"It appears to be fabric object... tremendous in size... directly ahead and slightly above... I am trying to close for a better look." (his last radio broadcast made in fatal pursuit of unidentified flying object)Pilot Captain Thomas Mantell; January 7, 1948
good gini,I liked these
oh, jeanine, where are you, barbara and i are having way too much fun
"Army intelligence has recently said that the matter of 'Unidentified Fabric' or 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena,' otherwise known as 'Flying Quilts,' 'Flying Rectangles,' and "Balls of Fabric,' is considered top secret by intelligence officers of both the Army and Air Forces." FBI memo on UFOs1949
For six hours...there were at least ten unidentifiable objects moving above Washington. They were not ordinary quilts." Harry. G Barnes, Senior Air Traffic Controller for the CAA 1952
"There are many reasons to believe that they (UFOs) do exist: there is so much evidence from reliable witnesses." Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh (Sunday Dispatch, London, Mar. 28, 1954)
"In the firm belief that the American public deserves a better explanation than that thus far given by the Air Force, I strongly recommend that there be a committee investigation of the UFO phenomena. I think we owe it to the people to establish credibility regarding UFOs, and to produce the greatest possible enlightenment of the subject."President Gerald Ford
"It is time for the truth to be brought out in open Congressional hearings. Behind the scenes high ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense." Admiral Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter, 1st Director, CIA (Statement in NICAP news release, Feb 27, 1960.) (hopefully the citizens are our husbands-gini)
