I am new to the board and fairly new to quilting. I am making 3 picnic quilts for my children and their families, and would love to have your opinion of what type of batting would be best for this type of project.
hi robin, welcome to the group. is this a quilt that is going on the ground to sit on? if so, i would get the most inexpensive batting you can find. any batting will work, assuming this isn't a show quilt.

Yes, just something for them to take on picnics with the kids. It would need to stand up to lots of washing!
I would use a very inexpensive batting for a project like this. In fact I recently made a picnic quilt and used denim for the backing. I didn't put any batting in this project.
i've used old flannel sheets in picnic quilts too.
Robin, i use quilter's dream batting for everything that I make that is a quilt project. I would use it though for this anyway - you want a cotton that will stand up to lots of washings and not pill in the washer or dryer.
