Day Two of vacation.... Shopping and taking the scenic routes really eat up time! I located the two quilt shops in Springfield, MO, and Randy had a great time at Grizzly's. Guess who spent more?
I liked the Quilt Sampler shop the best - so many wonderful displays on the walls! They have released the first two blocks of the Muchas Poochas BOM [http://www.quiltsampler.com/shop/Block-of-the-Month/p/Muchas-Poochas-BlockoftheMonth.htm]. Pancho, I thought of you immediately!
We had a battle of the navigation systems going on in the car. I had my phone navigation set for those quilt shops, and Randy had the car's GPS set for Grizzlies. The two systems were talking at the same time because the stores were all within a 5 mile radius. Here is Randy at Grizzly's.
Leaving Springfield, Randy suggested that we drive through the Ozarks, so thinking of Barbara's recommendation for the quilt shop in Branson, I determined we should continue following US-65 S. The Fons and Porter quilt shop app helped me locate "Quilts and Quilts Country Store" just west of the highway before you hit the theater district. You couldn't find that, Gini? Barbara was right in saying it would take hours to go through that store! I only had 45 minutes, so I could have done more damage given half a chance.
We continued down 65 S through the Ozarks - great scenery, hilly, windy roads, many poor shanties, green grass, and daffodils blooming in the ditches. Hit I-40 and will spend the night in Russellville, Arkansas. We have 550 miles to drive tomorrow, so no more shopping until we're settled in Texas.
Couldn't get a very good picture taken from the moving car....
On the banks of the Mississippi River in north central Minnesota (Brainerd lakes area)
Great travelogue, nancy. I went to a quilt shop, I don't think that was it. It wasn't very big
gini in north idaho
I have spent good money in all three of those shops!!
This quilt I made from fabric purchased at Merrily We Sew Along! It is my "Sew Kitty" quilt I take everywhere with me. It's about 10 years old now.
There is a fun little quilt shop somewhere between Branson and Eureka Springs that was a surprise find. It was a couple from Hawaii and they had some cool Hawaiian fabric in there. It was a fun shop but I have no idea where it was. One of the winding hills in Arkansas.
Nancy
Sounds like you are having a blast! Now you are in my kind of state, my late dad's state! The quilt shops sound wonderful! You are buying your way to Texas.
Who is winning at stopping the most you or Randy?
Great pic of you at the quilt shop! You look so relaxed! Retirement suits you!
We need to know what month you would like to be a calendar month for in VA Beach calendar!! LOL I will just sign you up! LOL
Hugs
Marlene
Looks like you are having a great time. I love the photos. That BOM is just too cute. I just may have to get this one.
Vinton, Virginia
I thought of you when I saw it because, of course, Pancho is in block one. I was disappointed it didn't have a poodle for Mars, but that must be Mac, don't you think?
Jeanine:I have spent good money in all three of those shops!!
So you get down to Missouri for quilt shopping, but you don't come up to Minnesota? You should try our state-wide shop hop this summer!
mars92:Who is winning at stopping the most you or Randy?
Randy, of course. His bladder is much weaker than mine. LOL
Thanks for the update Nancy. Looks like you're both having a good time.
Well, Nancy, wish you had traveled on to Harrison, and kept on Highway 7 Scenic Byway - you could have pulled in my driveway, six miles south of Jasper. That's 20 miles south of Harrison. I have some of those pudding rolls in the freezer - and lots of coffee and also lots of quilts to look at! Didn't realize you would be that close, guess it was a last minute change to drive through the Ozarks in Arkansas.
Thanks for the wonderful pictures and narrative on your travels Nancy, It looks like you two are having a wonderful time, what great memories.
Life is like a quilt...bits & pieces, joy -and- sorrow, stitched with love
