Well, we made it 610 miles today.  We're spending the night in Sedalia, Missouri.  Randy thought we'd take a more scenic route, so we left I-35 in Des Moines and traveled on US 65 which in Iowa turned out to be a very rough slow road, but the moment we crossed over into Missouri, the road was smooth with nice paved shoulders.  The scenery, though not green yet this time of year, was lovely - rolling hills, nice balance of woods, streams, and fields, and some really pretty towns.  I love Chillicothe!  The only frustrating part of the day was that the towns we traveled through were so small that there were NO QUILT SHOPS! (Did Randy plan that???)  Sedalia is big enough to have one, but we got in pretty late.

Tomorrow we head to Springfield, MO, so that Randy can shop at Grizzly's Woodworking Supply showroom.  I'll probably have him drop me at a quilt shop there - I KNOW they have at least two!  I'll wave at you in the direction of Ada, Leslie!  We won't get anywhere near Barbara's home in Liberty.   By noon, we should be back on the road to Texas.
The day started and remained cloudy/foggy/damp/cool until we were well south of Des Moines.  I was so glad to see the sun finally break out - heavy gray days actually tire my eyes while driving.  With the help of the sun, the temps quickly rocketed to 61 degrees - no snow remaining from that point on.
It appears we've already picked up 20 or more minutes of daylight since leaving home.  I wonder how much more it might be in San Antonio.
More travel news tomorrow, hopefully with some quilt shop pictures!

Nancy

So good to hear from you on your travels.  I know you will find a quilt shop!  And be prepared in SA to find Texas sized portions of food at the restaurants. Lots of great cafes and such to eat there. And not to be missed is the Chicken Fried Steak. One order serves two easily- no kidding -its Texas!

Enjoy!

Nancy, there is the Quilt Sampler, on Glenstone Str. , The FM store, on Sunshine Str. , Merrily We Quilt, also on SunshineStr. And there is a Joanns, on Battlefield Str., I can't think of any more off the top of my head.  If you should go through Carthage or Joplin there are a couple there also

Leslie, I found two of them on Google maps.  What is the FM store?

Gini, I can't even tell you how to get to the shop as I was on a bus and did not pay attention,  I just know it was an amazing shop to visit.  Barbara

Sounds like you are having a nice trip Nancy.  You and Randy have safe travels ---- we need you in one piece for VA Beach!  Have fun discovering quilt shops along the way.

Barbara, What  is the name of the shop in Branson? We were there 2 yrs. ago and found a good size shop with loads of  finished quilts made by the locals. And the prices were such a deal, I wondered how they could sell them and make any profit??? We stayed over an hour but the store was closing for the day so we had to leave. When I get back to Arkansas to visit my friend there, we will be going back. I liked Branson very much but it was winter so things were quiet around there. Its one of those places thats better in warmer weather.
