Pam:

This is a card the shop owner sent to each of us 3 Musketeers as a thank you card, oddly it resembles us! I would be the 3rd one on the right! HA!

ROFLOL  What a beautiful picture.  You being the one on the right, you would have a great smile and  you are lovely!

Sheila,   I found the coolest background fabric

It's at quilted threads.  Daiwabo taupe print,  DW DS21982

It's spendy, but I l,ove the subtle print.   I'll try to get a good picture of it for you

Gini, you're right. theat is amazing background fabric.  Wow I love it.

Moommist, great job.  Is The Sunbonnet Sue part of a quilt?

Love your braided quilt too.

chicagosinger:

Hi Rachel!

Well I guess you must be an expert 'cause both Margaret and Marge agree with you that my seam allowance is 1/4". Thank you to Rachel, Margaret and Marge for your help! I'm so glad I found this site, you guys are great! Got one more question(yes another dumb one!), It says my strips should be 10 1/2" long. However, I bought a pre-cut, 'Bali-Pop' and some strips are not quite long enough, or too long. (Off by a tinch, if there's such a measurement) Should I just cut them all as close to the same length as the rest? Or is this going to become a problem for me? To clarify, almost all the strips are correct, I'd say about 5 -10% aren't and are just a 'tinch' off (short or long). Any help would be appreciated.

P.S-Why are they uneven? Were they hand cut?

chicagosinger

Hi Chicago -- I've been quilting for a very long time so I've gotten pretty good at "fudging" those little inconsistencies -- if they are small enough.  I have been buying Bali Pops for quite awhile.  I love batiks and the draw of strip sets with 40 different fabrics was too much for me.  I have been stashing them since they first came out and I love to look at my basket of Bali Pops!  Just last week I pulled a set and started a quilt using a Strip Therapy pattern.  The author explains that these strips are all handcut in Bali because Hoffmann is trying to help the economy of the people who make these gorgeous fabrics.

Well, the first set I opened and started making strip sets was so completely uneven I was certain that I must have gotten a bad one so I opened another one.  Nope -- same result.  None of these strips is really 2 1/2" wide.  They range in size from 2 1/8" all the way up to 2 3/4".  This blows my mind.  I have taught three children ranging in age from 11 to 13 to cut perfect 2 1/2" strips.  It seems to me that if people are cutting hundreds or thousands of these strips everyday, they would eventually become efficient at it.  Quality control should become second nature after your first thousand or so.

Well -- sorry about that little soapbox rant but it does bother me.  I see that others have given you some very good advice on this issue and I don't think I can add anything more.  Thanx for letting me get that off my chest!

georgia, they are probably paid by how many they cut in a day, not how accurate they are.

Everyone will be so happy to receive such a present!

Thanks Angele. My step daughter is a lovely person and I'm assuming she's marrying a lovely family. That said, they all deserve something personal.
