Snugglebug Quilter: Hi Jeanine. I haven't been here for awhile, so I was just catching up. Seems you're busy as ever! Your grandson is a handsome fellow, for sure. I love that age. Your quilts are fab as usual! How's your custom work coming? I bet you are excelling there too! I understand about the challenges life throws at us. I am still working up to moving to the Chicago area, haven't commited yet as we have to sell our house here first most likely. Pretty scarey uprooting like this! While I don't have aging parents, I do have a brother with very serious health problems who rely's on me for moral support and the guilt of leaving him in this move is very tough. It's great having the support of you ladies here though, you're all like portable friends! :)

Quilt friends definitely help get you through what life throws you. I am trying to practice custom quilting but haven't had much time. I feel pretty good about my progress but have a long way to go!
Jeanine,
I hope you had a happy anniversary. You certainly have had your share of trials.
Thanks for the photos of your GS. I can hardly believe he's a year old already. I remember when he was born. He's a cutie. He has good taste; Grover is my favourite muppet too.
Cindy Stowe:Well, gang, remember the feather lesson I told you about that started June 1st? Well, I finally got it on & off my machine.
Beautiful work Cindy.
Question.....what is the going rate for cutting, piecing, sewing the binding on the quilt and then turning it and stitching it by hand? Quilt size is 68x84. Thank you for any information. Or is it not appropriate to ask this on the site?
Ramona,
I charge $13 per sq ft. This quilt comes in at 40 sq ft = $520. That's for a super simple pattern & quilting. Following a little more difficult pattern, more quilting = $15 sq ft = $600. If you dream up the quilt from scratch, custom quilt it, $20 sq ft = $800. I go by the book Make money quilting by Sylvia Landman.

Have any of you heard of Fil-Tec threads? Anyone used it? Judy & I just got the book "Mastering the art of longarm quilting by Gina Perkes. Awesome book! Anyway, in it she has a section on thread. She mentions Fil-tec glide thread & the magna-glide prewound bobbins. I checked out their site & Karen McTavish, Kimmy Brunner & a host of other quilters have been using this thread for awhile now. Very low lint, 40 WT thread & thread breakage is non-existent. Prices are sure good too. If anyone is using it, please post what you know. I think my next thread order is going to be from them.
Fil-Tec Glide is almost all I use. I love it and don't have tension or breakage issues. I have tried others like Superior So Fine but like Glide better.
Here is a little baby quilt I did yesterday.
And the music quilt I did for my mom. This is her original design and it was fun watching her figure out how to put it together. She didn't want any help. She is very proud of this and can't wait to give it to my dad.
Jeanine, great quilting. Love the simple but effective quilting on the baby quilt
Oh and tell your mom she did a qreat job
Cindy Stowe: This is not the best quilting, but it was all free hand.

Ramona: It said 104 degrees on our truck thermometer today in southern KY. I was really enjoying the 80 degree weather a few days ago.

Lucky you, in Northeastern KY we have been from 101 to 104 for the last week and half and that is from the Therometer in the shade at the back of the house. Shudder to think what it is in the sun. Plus the windstorm blew lots of trees down, but gave us no rain. I thought we would have rain this AM, but it passed us by again.
Jeanine, all your quilts are so great. love the colors
I am heading back to my Longarm room to do a girl version of the baby quilt I did yesterday. I labeled and photographed a dozen quilts from my group ready to send to Colorado. My husband will ship them this week. Seems like so little to give to those who have lost so much but they go with my prayers for healing and comfort!
