How many yards of fabric will I need for a 60 inch by 60 inch lap quilt for backing? Does anyone know how to figure that out I know a yard is 36 inches, will 2 yards be long enough? Or Will I need more?

Most fabric is 42-44 inches wide so you will need at least 4 yds...2 yds across and 2 yds down, unless you have 108 inch backing fabric.

I would buy 4 yds and cut them in 2 yd lenths and then sew them together so that you can get a square.   Or if you can find the oversize backing material you can buy just 2 yds.
