I'm thinking of getting myself a long arm machine.  Would be good to have it turn into a business down the road...  What is the going rate for long arm quilting on various size quilts?

Thanks for your input,

Hi Carin,

Charges are based on the amount of thread (density of design or all over edge to edge.etc) used per square inch or a set amount per quilt.  I really depends on your preference, I have seen LAQ's charge as much as 3 cents per inch.  I charge by size.  The research that I did before I bought my longarm machine said that you would have to do 2 quilts per week for 2 years to recoup the cost of your machine.  I am still recouping because that calculation did not include the learning curve.  First you really need to learn as much as you can that means you probably won't do 2 quilts a week.

I hope this helps!
