technically challenged

hi' I am new to this, technicaly challanged and a bit frustrated in addition to feeling a bit lost. By a happy accident I joined the Chrimsrmas al year long group which I will be happy to be a part of. However, i have been trying to find out about the secret santa and cannot seem to find anything but questionaire. when I tried the contact area I was to.d I am not an administrator ( whkch I did know) but that i cannot post a question there. This may be partly because I am on a tablet away from home but will appreciate any help you can provide. thank you Sharon (winurse)

I'm wondering if there is anyone in northeastern TN or Chicago, who may be interested in quilting a quilt/quilts for my daughters. And how much would she/he expect to be paid? I have not yet started, so the tops will not be ready for quilting for an indefinite time, so it could be a project for next fall after harvest, etc. This could even be done next winter for Christmas 2014.

Snakeskin Material Wanted

I'm trying to find about three yards each of light and dark matching snakeskin materials. My mailbox has gone on strike but I'll be checking back on this post to see if anyone can recommend a reliable site with quality material at reasonable prices. Material should be 100% cotton; 40-42" wide. I appreciate any help you might be able to offer, 'cuz at the rate I'm going now, I'll be 103 years old and forget what I wanted it for!

Free Patterns - WOW

So, being new I thought I would explore this website yesterday, what a fantastic resource! I can't believe I've been fumbling along on my own without knowing about this website.

Anyway I looked through all of the free patterns yesterday and downloaded all of them that interest me - hahaha - I now have 19 new projects swimming in my head!

I'm curious about completing a quilt from the free patterns. I wondered why no one seems to have posted their results in the comments under the free pattern section? It would be so cool to see other people's interpretations of the various patterns in the form of photos directly where the download can be obtained.

Hello,

I am fairly new to quilting; I have made 2 wall hangings, a TV quilt for my granddaughter and am currently working on a queen size bed quilt for hubby (the yellow brick road pattern). I am also in a block of the month working on the Amish With a Twist quilt at my local quilt shop here in Arnold, Mo. I purchased a pattern yesterday when I was in St. Charles, Mo. There was a sample on the quilt shop wall and I fell in love with it. The pattern is Star Spin Quilt by Oregon Treasures. I have also seen this quilt on the Amish web sites and it is gorgeous. However, after looking through the pattern, it seems very confusing. Has anyone ever attempted this quilt? Do you think perhaps I need a little more experience before I attempt this quilt? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All

I'm not a quilter myself but my mother is. She has produced more than a dozen quilts for the family since taking up the art at 70.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. A few years into her quilting she saw a picture of a drunkard's path quilt called around the world. Basically the quilt began with sunrise colours then proceeded in a clockwise fashion through the colours of the day. It began with the yellows and oranges and carried on through the colours of night. The design was an exercise in colour matching and blending.

I love to sew and I love books. I have been searching for years to try to get either the book or at least a colour photo for her. She has made four quilts for my son and two quilts for me. Mine was her first and it is entirely hand quilted. I treasure it. It is the only patten she wishes she had. Back in the day the only photocopy one could get was black and white. Can anyone help? The book is long out of print so I'm hoping that a book collector has it stashed away somewhere. Finding it seems to me, to be the best way to thank her for all of her hard work.

Inspiring Dutch Designer

Hello ladies,

I'm not sure this is the right place, but I just want to share this with you all.

Last November I was at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, and that's where I met a lovely Dutch lady. She -Jacqueline de Jonge/Becolourful- is a quilt designer, and makes really stunning quilts. They are so colorful and bright. I instantly fall in love with her designs. It's paper pieced, and so perfectly done. She has a great pattern line, with all kind of difficulties, she even made an instruction DVD, that shows you how to make a Becolourful quilt.

I think this lovely lady deserves a little attention from us American quilters :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I live outside the USA and was home for a visit this past summer. I purchased a suitcase full of fabric -- many charm packs. I purchased one charm pack "Merry & Bright" by Sandy Gervais for Moda but didn't get any coordinating fabric for borders. Bummer! Anyone know where I might be able to order this line to finish my projects? HELP!

basting spray

I hand quilt the full size bed quilts that I make for my grandchildren when they graduate from high school. When getting ready to begin quilting the 5th one, I decided that I would try basting spray instead of hand basting with thread, which is what I have always done before. My attempt was less that successful. The top looks smooth, but when I turned over to the back, it is not. My question for those who have used basting spray is: Do you spray the whole quilt, or just certain places, like when thread basting? I am thinking that may be where I went astray. If you do the whole thing, any tips you can give me would be much appreciated. I have already decided that if I use basting spray again for a large quilt, I will wear disposable gloves, since I had to use a pot scraper to get my hands clean last time. Grandmaquilter

reflections (refraction) quilt pattern

Reflections(refraction) Quilt Pattern I'm trying to find a book or a pattern that provides instructions for this type of quilt. I do know it needs 4 repeats and then you cut 2" off top and bottom then 2" off sides and then I'm lost. I did find a quilt by Susan Vanderveen called reflection quilt made with large rose print on her website (susanvanderveen.com) but have not been able to find out how to make it. Help anyone?
