My first baby quilt was made with a rail fence-- 3 different fabric strips 2-1/2 in wide sewn together then cut into rectangle. They surrounded the center motif panel and was a smash. Plus it was EASY!!!!

nana, when you click on the picture the sashings and the squares are the same size.

laurie, if you make 2 inch finished squares your quilt will be 34 inches wide before borders. at 2 1/2 inch finished, your quilt will be about 42 inches wide. if you have 3 inch finished squares, it will be 51 inches wide. you need to decide how big you want your quilt to be and how long. it would look good as a square, too. cute pattern. it would look good with smaller sashings, too, but you'ld need to account for a smaller size with the smaller sashes. gini

Just from looking at the picture I would guess that your squares start out at 3 in. and the sashing at 2 1/2 in. Very cute pattern.

Ok I think I am going to try the nine patch but I have no clue what size squares to make or anything.

My favorite quick baby quilt is basically an oversized Ohio star in a star. It's beginner friendly.Let me know if you'd like the try the pattern and I'll get you a copy of it.

Minkee does make a soft quilt, but it's a pain to work with because it sheds everywhere. If you decide to use it, be prepared for that:)

I know it doesn't sound very pretty, but use some black and white fabric in your quilt. Babies can't see color and as they start looking around they really pick up on the contrast of black and white.

A nine patch design would work great and I would probably use 3 in squares. It is also fun to use minkee for the backing and flannel for the top. It makes the quilt so soft and cuddly.

Hello everyone I am very new to the quilting and I am wanting to make a baby quilt for a 2 month old baby girl I am watching for Christmas. I have seen several different patterns but was curious as to what everyone else makes. All I have done so far is quilt with squares which is fine but I am not sure on what size squares to use for a baby quilt or anything so if anyone has any helpful advice I would appreciate it.
