I've posted pics of my sewing room on my blog, but here are a couple for this discussion. Of course, the pics were taken after organizing and cleaning my sewing room. Don't come over anytime soon. My stash & projects have migrated into the front room and you can find quilting stuff everywhere in my house. Oh well!

Last year I was looking at the HQ Avante with the Pro Stitcher but now more manufactures are coming out with computerized quilting. And I'm lost on which machine to really look at for purchasing.

Here's is what I'm looking for.... 12 foot frame, 18" or 24" machine with stitch regulator, and ability to do free motion, computerized and pantographs. I want to do quilting as a hobby but someday a business when I get comfortable.

Forgive me if my request sounds alittle dumb, but without real experience on a long arm, I am VERY inexperienced and ignorant.

Its alot of money to spend without getting all the information I can on it and what better source is to go to the people who do it. If I go to a dealer, of course theirs is the best. What do you think is the best machine without going overboard on cost? What are your pros and cons from experience?

Thanks so much in advance. Any information will be appreciated.

My in-laws are moving into assisted living. They have been going through the house and I have accepted a stack of quilt blocks, templates, and fabric that were part of a quilt my MIL had started a long time ago. I have never done something like this before, piecing someone else's quilt top or doing anything with old fabric. The fabric is old but in good shape, cotton. There are a few pieces cut, enough for a Drunkard's Path block, as well as a few squares and rectangles, not sure where she was going with those. There are 32 completed blocks - enough for 5 x 6 plus two 12" pillows. That's my plan. The thing is that five of blocks have been sashed on all four sides already with an off white, which is a good match colorwise but the fabric seems very frail and it is see-through. I hesitate to sash the whole thing with this fabric. On the other hand, I hate to rip because I don't want to damage the blocks. I think I will end up ripping but the next question is will it be okay to sash with today's fabric which is a little more sturdy. She has a solid blue included which I may use for the border but I don't want to use it for the sashing because it doesn't contrast enough with the blocks, which are pink and blue. Or I may use it for cornerstones for the sashing. Anyway, if anyone has any input about this I would welcome it.

I will say she did a very nice job with the blocks. Every one of them is 12-1/2 inches. There won't be any problem putting this together!

I am still chuckling when I think of it.

The Librarian from our county library saw my Harry Potter quilt at the NW Washington Fair last August and asked if I'd be willing to hang it at the library for a month. Every month they have a different quilt hanging. I was assigned to bring the quilt out for the month of May.

We got it hung and were standing back looking at it when a lady stopped to look. The Librarian said "Isn't it beautiful? It's titled Harry Potter's Library". The woman literally turned up her nose and said she knew nothing about Harry Potter and couldn't care less about the quilt. She walked away. The Librarian was embarrassed but I had to control myself not to burst out laughing.

Looking for pattern

Does anyone know of or have a quilt pattern for a motorcycle quilt?
