To me it looks like the white centers are a bit wonky. At this computer I can't enlarge the view but is it possible they've put fusible web on the back of some muslin, cut out wonky squares from it and ironed it on? That would certainly give a firmer surface to write on. You could edge stitch as much or as little as you like on the muslin.

darlene, it looks like the blocks in this quilt are on 8 and 4 inch increments. the large blocks are 8 inches with a four inch block in the center

large block: cut a 4 1/2 inch center muslin square, 2 pieces of your outside fabric 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches and 2 pieces 2 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches.

sew the two smaller colored pieces to opposite sides of your center square, then sew the longer pieces to the other two sides of your center square

small block: cut a center muslin rectangle 6 1/2 x 2 . 2 pieces of outside fabric 1 1/2 x 2, and two pieces 8 1/2 x 1 3/4

you can see she has doubled up some of the smaller blocks and left them single in other places.

will someone be kind enough to check my maths for darlene?

It looks pretty scrappy to me. Maybe have different size blocks available to accommodate how much people want to write. I don't think you really need a pattern to copy the picture.

I would like to make one similar to this one. She found several but liked this one best, but I need a pattern similar to start with as I am not good enough at quilting to do it on my own.

I just Googled "wedding guest book quilt" and clicked 'images' on the side and there are tons of ideas out there that look fairly simple to put together. Once you find a design you like I'm sure someone here can help you find a pattern!

My daughter saw this and would like me to make one similar to this for her wedding. Does anyone know of a pattern that is like this? I do not feel comfortable enough trying to make it on my own. Your help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
