Carolyn (CarolBeau):
DH wants to rip out the whole yard and replace it with pretty perfect grass

Once you have creeping charlie, I don't think there's any getting rid of it.  Any little smidgeon of root left after ripping it out quickly turns into another whole plant.

I have to agree with you - it's green so it's good enough!  During droughts as we're in now, I can focus my watering on flower & vegetable beds and skip the lawn.  Less mowing that way!

Carolyn

I love the black and white hen.  She looks so regal.  My son and Dil have chickens.  They bought some that were fast growers just for the meat and then bought laying hens for eggs.   My DIL seems to be having the time of her life with her "farming"....LOL>

Leslie :

Carolyn, sorry lol.   I put a heat light in my coop during the winter,   their egg laying doesn't slow down when the days grow shorter with it

That's good to know.  We kept a red heat light in the coop when we first put them out this spring, since they were still kind of small.  I am tempted to put that out again when it starts to get cool.  I don't like the idea of not getting eggs in the winter.

Thanks Nana and Kris for the compliments on the black and white hen.  Her name is Edith, after Edith Vanderbilt, because we also thought she looked quite fancy and we'd just returned from the Biltmore estate.  :)
