WOW, Susan!  that's a lot of machine power!  You are the first I have seen post as having a Brother Innovis 4500 D...I have one, too.  We have a love/hate relationship.  I'm scared of it as regards setting it up for embroidery since the book has all those nasty little warning boxes!!!  So, I have not used it for that yet (well, after all, I have only had it for four years and it is has been busy turning out quilts!).   Do you like yours?  Do you use it often?  Have any problems with it?  Just very curious.

I use Janome (QC 1665?) and recently bought a small AQS Anniversary 720 to take to classes.  I like the machines.  I also have a Singer 221 that I used to use (but that only does the straight stitching).  I had another one that was stolen (or I lost it) out of my car.  Has anyone else out there ever had that happen?  I still have the serial number and was wondering if there's a web site where I can post it.  That experience really put me in a funk for about 3 years.  It still bothers me what happened to it.  I loved that machine.  It "whirled like a top" and sew like brand new.  Oh well!  But I like my Janome.  For what I can do and want to do--it's perfect and was decently priced.

Glad to hear you like the Juki.  I was told it is a real work horse with a great stitch.  I just purchased one to use on a longarm frame.  I also have a Bernina 640 and a small Janome for classes.

OOH Marilyn -- very nice.  I drooled over the 7700 when I took my 6600 in for it's annual visit.  I just couldn't justify changing since my 6600 isn't that old.  Besides, I haven't learned how to use allof the bells and whistles on the 6600.  :o{  I ended up walking out with a 350E embroidery machine though so I wasn't all that GOOD.

Susan:

Can a person have too many machines? I have: Janome 6600, Brother Innovis 4500D, 1934 Singer Featherweight, a 70's Kenmore, Singer 15-91, Singer 128, Singer 99K, 2 Singer 66's (one treadle, one electric),  Singer model 15, Ben Hur treadle, Janome serger, & an A-1 Elite Longarm.

Susan

Goodness! That is quite a few! Machines are as bad as fabric stashes, books, patterns and thread!

And welcome to the world of QCA and all of our addictions. You'll fit right in! lol

Bummer seems like some people will steal just about anything. I simply can not stand a thief. The worse is that you will probably never know.  Did you not file a police report?   I doubt seriously that you just lost it.

I have an 830 Bernina from 1980 that just keeps going and going, a great machine!! I have taken it to FL so it's there when we fly down. (We live in MA.)  I have a Pfaff 2170 that I love, it sews beautifully and does embroidery too, I'm still learning the 4D Extra and have a long way to go to learn all that it can do. I also have a Janome Gem 760 that I got to take to classes as it's a 3/4 machine and so light, and perfect for traveling with. It's a great little machine.  I have a treadle machine in a cabinate also, inherited from my mother in law.  I am waiting for the serger machine to get here, I just ordered it on Sat. (it's a retirement gift to me from me)  so it should be here soon. It's the Babylock Evolution and I can't wait to play with it. I've had two lessons on it already because we leave for FL soon and I want to take it with us. We are driving this time so we can take more "stuff"( sewing of course.)   I'm looking forward to warmer weather and more time to sew, I'm so exited to be retired, we'll be spending 5 months in FL this year. WOW!!!!!!

Hi Valerie,

sounds like you've got quite a diverse group of machines. I have the Pfaff 2170 and I love it but lately it's been giving me all kinds of trouble. I keep taking it from shop to shop only to have the same problem crop up again. I'm resigned to the fact that I need a new machine. I don't live near a Pfaff dealer anymore so I'm looking at Brother (preliminary stages).

Have a great drive down to Florida. Wish I were heading south too. Where in MA do you live?

Hi Valerie~

I live in MA and would there be enough room for me to stow away in the car and go to FL for the winter? We'd have to bring my sewing stuff, too and my painting business. I might need a trailer. lol Where in MA do you live? I live in Tewksbury.

I have the Babylcok Ellegante and the Babylock Imagine Wave serger, They are my treasures. I've been looking at a new quilting machine and using the Ellegante for embroidery. I'm leaning towards the Bernina 820. Now all I have to figure out is how can I pay for it. I have a Brother CS6000i lightweight for classes. Nice little machine, a 1955 Featherweight, a White De'Lite and a Smiplicity Quilter.

Have fun in FL!!!!!

I have a BrotherCs8060 that I love.  It has many of the advanced features and it was not  very expensive.  I also have a Brother PE11 embroidery which serves me well.  I have 2 sergers. A White Jaguar about 20 yrs old that has never given me any trouble and a Frontier Serger that always gives me trouble.  The only reason i bought the Frontier was I thought I needed a four thread, but I seldom use it.  For the amount of sewing and quilting I do I am quite satisfied.

I live in East Bridgewater MA. Where do you live?  I'm sorry  to hear that you're having trouble with your 2170. I hope you can find someone to repair it as it really is a great machine, and costly too. Do you use 4D Extra? It is very upsetting when you get a machine and the dealer goes out of business as mine did. I bought mine in July of 08 from the Fabric Place and had no idea that they were going to be out of business by November. I only got a couple of quick lessons and had to travel to their other store that was almost two hours away. I was lucky to find another person to fix a hugh thread ball I created when doing embroidery (operator error) and he did such a good job and has 27 years experience  repairing machines,  so I will take it there for check ups. They don't sell Pfaff's but repair all makes and models.

I'm hoping to have more time to read and comment in these forums now that I've retired. I may be pretty busy packing the next few days and will be on the road for a few days. If the weather is good and we get off early enough we're going to stop in DC to see the Air and Space musuem (my husbands desire) and then head on down. It's  24 hours of driving time. It will be so worth it though once we get there. There are 12 of us who meet weekly to sew and talk and exchange ideas and most of all laugh a lot. I've been able to join them for 3 weeks in November and 3 weeks in Narch in the past so I'm really exited to be able to go for a much longer stay this time.

Thanks for replying,

Val

Hi Diane,

I live in East Bridgewater MA. Two of our neighbors in FL come from Leominster MA not too far from you. I'm hoping all my "stuff " will fit in the back of the pickup truck (it has a cap on it ). I just want to take everything. I have enough clothes there already for the most part, I 'm mostly interested in all my sewing  and quilting stash and books about quilting and all my notions and tools and rulers. Oh my, I sure hope it fits in there.

I'm really looking forward to playing with the serger. I've had 3 lessons already and can't wait for it to get here tomorrow. Do yo have any suggestions for what to use it for first?

Happy quilting, Val

Val,

I live in Sanford, ME.

My 2170 was doing fine until I took her for a check-up at the local sewing machine dealer (not Pfaff). I don't know if the trouble coincided with this but I attribute it to them. I have since taken it to a few other places with no better results. I called the closest Pfaff dealer and she said her son can take a look at it. She thinks it's an "electronics" problem. If he can't take care of it "in house" they'll send her back to the factory. In the mean time, she has offered me a good deal. I don't know when I'll be going there though.

I have the entire 4D suite. I didn't have too many lessons before we moved so i haven't done much with it. The lady I spoke with today offers classes at her shop and they fit my work schedule so I'll have to look into that.
