Nana - I have my fabrics picked out - I got carried away, tho, and decided to pick 15 different for each value.  Three of us went shopping yesterday on one of our ladies' day out,  the quilt shops in Springfield, MO  had a real good day  and a fabric  store too - we had lots of fun.  I always run short of light values, not this time - here they are:

Your fabrics are beautiful.  Now remember you will only need to cut one strip from each fabric if you use 15 for each value.   Beautiful choices.

Yes, I know - then look how much fabric I will still have to use for something else ~~~don't ever use it all up, or I'd be  totally upset!!  Thanks for the type of project, love it!! I'm the scrapqueen.  CarolmL

Great fabriics so far everyone.

I have some preliminary picks. I still have a little more work to do on the lights. Maybe a pale pinky lavender . Might require a road trip to the LQS. Anyway here is what I have so far.

Steph~

Ooh, brights! Nice selection.

Carol~ love your colors, too.

Nana~ You only need one strip if you go with 15 fabrics? Cool! My stash is not very big.

I'm hoping to do some stash shopping this evening and see what I come up with. This will be another fun project with so many different looking quilts. Isn't this fun? Where have you been all my life QCA?

Nana,

I do have lots of scraps, some of them even in strips!

To confirm, we need a total of 45 strips, 2 1/2" by 40" (or was it 44"?). 15 strips light, 15 strips medium, 15 strips dark, and they can all be different fabrics, or some of the strips can be duplicates, but we should have at least 3 different fabrics of each value.

Did you say there is a minimum length of a piece? If I have two strips of one fabric, one that is 15" and one that is 30", can I count those as one strip?

This will definitely cut down my scrap box overflow!

I really don't have time to start cutting or sewing until August, but I'm sorting my scraps to get ready.

Thanks again!

Nana:
I don't have the red thingy either and so far haven't found one in any of the stores that I have been in.

I got a set with both a red and green thingy from Nancy's Notions for $6.99.  The product number is CE002.

Judy

We will be cutting 6 1/2 in squares and we should be able to get 6 squares out of strips.  So if you have a strip that is at least 40 inches it should be alright.  I like to have a little extra so I will probably try for at least 42 in length.

Having said that you should be ok using two pieces that you can get 6 1/2 in squares out of.

Pat,

the green "thingie" works like the red one. But it works better with lighter colours.
