Hello everyone who said "Hi"

I updated my Profile with info about myself but not sure if thats where I ought to have "rambled"    Am not 'savvy'  with these sites but will await your replies to see if I got to the correct area.

A lot of Aussies shop on the American websites for the MUCH cheaper prices. Even allowing for the currency conversion and postage its still cheaper than our local quilt shops.  Now I know we should support them as they rely on our business to stay afloat but golly its hard when they charge between  $20 - $26 per metre.

Thats all for now, Im finishing the Mocha Meringue quilt pattern that I started ages ago..its a lovely easy pattern and unusual colours and I vowed I'd get in to it and finally finish it over the Easter and my husband doesnt think I will but I'm determined to prove him wrong.

Welcome Sandra

Wow.  I don't think I could afford to do much quilting at those prices.  OUCH.  Hope you enjoy the site and make lots of friends.  Have fun chatting with everyone and browsing all the neat things QCA offers.  Would love to see pics of some of your projects.

Sandra Edwards:
Hello from Australia.......

Hello Sandra!  I have several cousins in Australia.  It's a long story involving an aunt in WWII who stowed away on an Australian ship to go back with her boy friend.  The captain discovered her half way and married the two.

It is hard to imagine fabric being so expensive!  Are any fabrics manufactured in Australia, sounds like a business to go into.

Welcome to the group!

Welcome to the QCA forums, Sandra. Where in Australia do you live? I have 3 friends who live there and 2 who live in NZ. One of those in NZ is a quilter and all 3 in Oz are quilters.

Hello also to Nana and Patti

Havent worked out all the reply thingys so am doing this as a group hello.

I live in the southern most state on the mainland...Victoria.  2 hours east of the capital, Melbourne.   6000 people, not a big town is Churchill but 10 mins from 3 other towns that have 20,000 people each so have the best of both worlds.    A good 'supply' of quilt shops, too.  As well as a Spotlight store. Its like JoAnns Fabrics,  all over the place.    My daughter was teaching at KState in Manhattan, Kansas for 2 years but is back home now. Of course I went over a couple of times to visit and went to a few stores to buy fabric.  I stayed in LA and Vegas for 5 days each city before continuing on to Kansas. Theres a lady in Vegas who does a shop hop and collects you at your Casino and takes you to 4 shops and of course you stop for a yummy lunch too.  Then drops you off back at your place. Met 3 other ladies all from Canada (who didnt know each other beforehand) and we all had a great day.  So I recommend that..its called Quilt Tours of Las Vegas      Finished the mocha meringue quilt and also 2 wall hangings. Am off to a 2 day retreat this weekend with 8 girlfriends, we go twice a year.  Its a private one but I also go on 2 others and love it all. Get so much sewing done plus too much food...as we all probably know.

Bye for now everyone      xx

Sandra, the shop hop in Vegas and your quilt retreat sound wonderful!

When you get time, I'd like to see a picture of your mocha meringue quilt as well as your wall hangings!

Dont know how to put photos on here yet and will have to wait for one of the kids to come out to visit to show me how.

Also, do I hit reply (like I've done here) on mine to send a message back or do I hit reply on an individual persons posting?

Sandra you can hit reply on any of the postings.  When you do there is an icon that looks like a film strip, click on that and browse till you find your file with the pictures and click on the file name and then hit insert

Sandra, Marilyn explain how to insert a photo. When you reply, you can click on whatever message you want, your own included.

Hello from Australia........did you get the fabric you needed or shall I start ringing around the patchwork shops down here?  Maybe one of them might have it?
