Hi There,

I am wondering if  quilters should always pre-wash and iron all their cotton quilting fabric's

before starting a quilt or any projects.?? The reason I am asking - there seems to be different

opinions on this.??

I know if is going to be say...a wall hanging most do not wash there fabric's ??

I always to...but some say with the new fabrics it is not necessary?

I would be afraid not to wash all my quilting fabric's but that might be a matter

of option.?

I would appreciate your answers and thoughts on this subject.

Thanks and Have a great quilting day...!!!

I only prewash my flannels  unless it is for a ragtime.  Other than that I use the straight from the quilt shop.

I usually wash most of my fabric, some fabrics bleed and I don't want to happen. I 've always been afraid of the fabric shrinking too. Some products such as iron-on adhesive directions #1 is Pre-wash all materials without fabric softener.

Jude, this question comes up periodically, so I thought I would find an old thread with many answers.

pre-washing (common question I'm sure)
