I started a new quilt today for my grandson. He likes greens, browns and black.

I have decided to use the pattern I found in Fons and Porter Love of Quilting May/June 2012 issue called Candy Store .  The quilt is very colorful, and I hope that the color choice my grandson has made works with this pattern.  We will see.

I have not seen the pattern but the color combination sounds good.   Do you need to have different values, like light, dark, medium.   When called for I find this makes more difference than the colors with how well a quilt comes out.

I pulled up the pattern. There really does not seem to be any set color pattern in it. I would use the center blocks as the main colors that he likes and do the sashing is a bolder color to make the darker colors stand out. Maybe a bright yellow.  I did a couple of men quilts and they were both in the darker colors, but I added one bright color and it did the trick.

I am trying to start a quilt for a baby crib. But it needs to be in Dark Blues and White. Problem is I cannot find a pattern that has whales or Boats on it. Any suggestions?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I am using light, med. and dark in my greens and browns. I like the way it is turning out.

I am alternating the center block with green and brown with the black surrounding it. also using black for sashing. The finished block looks pretty bright so I haven't decided on a color for the border yet

Isn't it a great feeling when a quilt just comes together! I'll look forward to seeing a photo of the finished project. It sounds like great colors. You can even post photos of the quilt as you go along. We all love to share in the experience.

I thought of you today when I was looking at my new Quiltmaker  Magazine. (July/Aug 13) On page 54 was a cute little boat quilt. You might try it. The quilt had blue and red boats with a white background.
